HERMANUS is a corruption of Hieronymus, and the Klyn is variably spelled in that locality but the descendants in Northern N. J. and Columbia used the spelling Kline only. The following records establish the residence of Herman Kline (Klyn) from 1763 to New Jersey. "Walter Rutherford sold to Elders of Calvinistical Congregation adjacant to Round Valley of Lebanon, N. J. (Edgerton). On April 7, 1769, Walter Rutherford of Edgerton in Lebanon, Hunterdon Co.. N. J. sold to Harmon Kline, Andreas Kerger, Anthony Kremer, and Henry Huffman of said county, Elders of Calvanistical Congregation, adjacent to Round Valley of Lebanon for one shilling, a tract of land on which a meetinghouse is now built with the grave yard adjoining and a lane to the High Road." Recorded in Flemington Hunterdon County, N. J., D. B., 2 page 5, Section. Herbert G. Gerhart, Note Book No. 8, page 45. Herman Kline was also administrator of Estate of Peter Nister of Roxbury, Norris Co., Interstate, October 8, 1763, also made Inventory of Est. of Isriel Cress of Lebanon Twp., Hunterdon Co., N. J. March 22, 1770. Hermanus Kline of Sussex County, N. J. was a lieutenant and afterwards captain of Petty's Co., 1st Regiment, New Jersey Militia, in the Revolutionary War as attested by W. F. Sadler, Adj. Gen. of N. J. His will dated Aug 1, 1777 in Kingwood Twp.; probated at Trenton, April 26, 1787; naming the following children: 1. HERMANUS KLINE baptised May 12, 1724. Other than the baptismal record we have no record of Hermanus. 2. ISAAC KLINE (Married Margaret) 3. GEORGE KLINE (married Rebecca) 4. JOHANNUS KLINE (married Janneta) mentioned by Washington in one of his orderly books as having been at Valley Forge. 5. ABRAHAM KLINE married Charity Ann Kramer, born Nov. 18, 1735, died Aug. 21, 1828. 6. CHRISTINE KLINE, (married to Tunis Hummer) 7. CATHERINE KLINE, (married Jacob Gearhart) 8.
