    Raymond Gilkison
    Memorial and Masonic services for Raymond E. Gilkison, 65, of Oakwood were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18 at Carrington Funeral Home 110 E. Court St. Fairmount. The Rev. Tom Hendrickson officiated.
    The family received friends at the Catlin Community Building following the services.
    Mr. Gilkison died at 8:30 p.m. Friday (Aug. 11, 1995) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
    He was born May 4, 1930, at Sidell, a son of Sanford and Mary Bedinger Gilkison. He married Katherine J. Walton on Aug. 27, 1948. She survives.
    Also surviving are his mother of Chrisman, three daughters, Mary Kay Dixon of Catlin, Susan Jeane Thomas of Homer and Ramona Ruth Chambliss of Perrysville, IN; two sons, Timothy Alan Gilkison of Fairmount and Raymond Eugene Gilkison of Oakwood; two brothers, John Gilkison of St. Joseph and Jerry Gilkison of Lafayette, CO; and eight grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers.
    Mr. Gilkison retired from the University of Illinois after 27 years as a steamfitter. He was a member of the United Plumbers and Steamfitters for 42 years.
    He was a member of the Catlin Masonic Lodge, the Catlin Church of Christ and the Fairmount Conservation Club. He served with the National Guard.
    Memorial contributions may be made to the Carle Foundation Hospital Oncology Department, Urbana.

    MHR note: Willie Gilkison was a strong and long-enduring young man and could cut (with a knife) and shock 1000 socks of corn when 50 was an ordinary man's work. He could lift a horse weighting 100-1100 lbs by crawling under and grasping one fore and one hind leg. He once lifted his cousin, John Hedges, onto the coal house by taking John's wrists in one hand and the slack of John's pants in the other. John was only 10 or 15 pounds lighter than Willie.

Addie had lived in Vermilion County, Illinois since she was 12 years old and in Catlin Township for 51 years. She belonged to the Catlin Church of Christ.
