    Age 93, passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2005 at Heartland Healthcare in Ionia. She was born on February 26, 1912 in Loda, Illinois the daughter of Henry and Rosa (Cogswell) Beland ,Sr.. Mrs. Nash was a member of LeValley United Mehtodist Church. She and her husband farmed for most of her life in Sebewa Township and they enjoyed traveling together. Leah married Allen Jay Cross on April 15, 1930. They celebrated 72 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on May 26, 2002. She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Jerilou Cross and sister, Gladys White. Surviving are 4 sons Robert (Judy) Cross, Dean (Maureen) Cross, Donald Cross, Kendall Cross all of Lake Odessa; 1 daughter, Elaine (Donald) Nash of Lyons; 14 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren ; also survived by several step grandchildren and great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; sister, Rosa (Edgar) Fleetham of Sunfield; brothers, Henry (Beulah) Beland of Lake Odessa and Thomas (Geraldine) Beland of Stanwood, MI.; several nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be conducted by Rev. Mark Johnson, Pastor at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 12, 2005 at LeValley United Methodist Church, 1461 E. David Hwy., Ionia. Graveside services will follow after the luncheon at East Sebewa Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland. For those wishing, contributions may be made to Heartland Healthcare in Ionia or to the charity of one's choice in memory of Mrs. Cross.

    Lake Odessa – Henry A. Beland, 78, of Route 1, Lake Odessa, an Odessa Township farmer, died at 1:30 a.m. today in Ionia County Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient since Sunday. He was born March 22, 1876, in Ashcum, Ill, the son of Alphonse and Leah (Raboin) Beland. Mr. Beland married his wife, Rosa, who survives, on Feb. 10, 1909 in Loda, Ill., and they moved to the Sunfield area in 1925. In 1937 they moved to the Lake Odessa area. Mr. Beland was a member of the Odessa Farm Bureau and St. Edwards Catholic Church. Surviving besides his wife are three daughters, Mrs. Gladys White of Lake Odessa; Mrs. Leah Cross of Rout 1, Portland, Mich., and Mrs. Rosa Fleetham of Sunfield; two sons, Henry Jr. of Lake Odessa and Thomas of Holt; a sister, Mrs. Ella Houston of Rushville, Ill.; two brother, William of Staceyville, Iowa and Lester of Bloomington, Ill.

    Buckley – Mrs. Leah Beland Dorris, 89, died at the Kankakee hospital Tuesday morning. Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph’s church, Loda, at 9:30 a.m. Friday, with Fr. Griffin officiating. Burial will be in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Loda.
    She was born at Bourbonnais March 8, 1854. She was a resident of Loda and Paxton communities for 49 years. She had lived in Kankakee for six years. Surviving are three sons, Lester Beland, Paxton; Henry Beland, Lake Odess, Mich., and William Beland, Staceyville, Ia., and one daughter, Mrs. John Huston, Melvin.

    Mr. John Cogswell died at his home north west of town on Wednesday of the grip, aged 39 years. He joined the Christian Church when 19 years old, and had ever since been a consistent member. The funeral services were held at the residence Friday, at 10 a.m., conducted by Rev. S. B. Jones of Champaign, and the remains were interred in the Old Homer Cemetery. The deceased leaves a wife and four children, all very sick with the same fatal malady.
