The man living next to the little cemetery (James Edward Hall) said several stones had disappeared from the cemetery one night. One may have been that of their son, "Russell" Cassity.

Story about Vianna in her grandson Lucian White's notes from newspaper article about Lucian's skills making dulcimer.
    * * * * *
The Kentucky hills and its people, especially his grandmother Vianna Hamm, are what White likes to talk about most. “Oh,” he exclaimed, “every boy should have a grandmother like that to tell him stories.”
It was right after the Civil War when the southern general John Hunt Morgan paid his last visit to White’s grandmother’s hunting lodge, White said. Morgan used to come there before the war for recreation and hunting and White’s grandparent’s hospitality.
Grandfather Hamm had gotten a land grant to run the lodge and the area was excellent for hunting fox, white-tailed deer and the like. Also had good fishing, White said.
Well Morgan was one of those generals who never did surrender. He became leader of an outlaw band and would ride in, steal horses and loot a place at the drop of a hat. If there wasn’t any loot worth having or he met resistance in taking it, he’d have his men set all the buildings on fire.
When they came riding into his grandmother’s after her husband had died, she was down in a cellar along, White said. The outlaws were bent on stealing the horses from the corral but were unable to get them out. “For some reason the horses just ran around in the corral making a commotion.”
His grandmother ran up from the cellar and accosted the outlaws by herself. White said “John Hunt Morgan!” she shouted at the former general. “Is this the tanks you give me for slaving over a hot cookstove while you were out hunting?
Morgan just looked down from his big horse and motioned for his men to close the gate. “Come on boys,” he said. “her horse never were any good.” And they rode off.

    ______________________________
Obituary written & signed by Thomas J Monroe, pastor of Mt. William Church:
    ______________________________

On the evening of August 5th, 1894 at his home in Wirt County, West Virginia, Henry Barnabas Hylbert departed this life, aged 67 years five months and 11 days.

He was born February 18, 1827 in Nicholas County, West Virginia and made that his home. He was converted at twelve years of age and joined the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and remained a member of that church until he moved to Wirt County, West Virginia in 1852. He then united with the Good Hope Baptist Church near Reedy, Roane County, West Virginia. Then in 1889 when the Mount William Baptist Church was organized he was a charter member and remained a faithful member of that church until death.

Uncle Barney, as he was called by all who knew him, was as near a model Christian as I have ever seen. He was a good neighbor and friend to all. When any benevolent object was presented to the church he was always ready to assist and that liberally. In paying the pastor he always gave more than any one else in the church.

His funeral was preached by Rev. Thomas J. Monroe, the writer who used as his text I Samuel 20:18, "Then Jonathon said to David, tomorrow is the new moon: and thou shalt be missed because thy seat shall be empty." That was the largest congregation ever assembled at that place for his friends were many, and he was kind to all.

His sons eight in number carried his remains to the Mount William Cemetery where he was buried. Uncle Barney leaves a widow, Mrs. Sarah Jane Hylbert, eight sons and two daughters, all living.

I have been his pastor three years and his home was his pastor's home. He always was the most resigned man to the will of the Lord I have ever seen. Mount William Church has lost a noble member and the community one of its best citizens. May the rich blessings of God rest upon the family in their bereavement.
    Signed: Thomas J Monroe, pastor

LKH note: all census and burial records I can find show that Elizabeth was born about 1872 and her father Nathaniel died in 1910. HOWEVER, her mother Alvora could have indeed died when Elizabeth was 9 years old. Nathaniel Boggs married first to Almira King in 1850, They had 5 children who appear in census records. He married a second time to Alvira (E. Jane) Valentine in 1868 and they had five children who appear in census records. He married a third time to Nancy M. Cline in 1885. It is most probable that his first and second wife died before he remarried.
