    Mr. Harold E. Roderuck, 89 of Walkersville, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 19, 2011 at the Glade Valley Center. He was the husband for 52 years of the late Ruth E. Culler Roderuck.

    Born in Frederick County on October 5, 1921 he was the son of the late G. Edgar and M. Hazel (Hedges) Roderuck. A graduate of Walkersville High School Harold was a lifelong dairy farmer joining the family business, Monocacy Manor Farm, retiring in 1993.

    Active for the majority of his life in the farming community, he was a 50 year leader of the 4-H and a life member of the 4-H All-Star. He was a 75 year member of the Maryland-Virginia Milk Producers. Serving for over 50 years as a member of the Glade Valley Grange, he served as past master and was also a member of the Frederick Pomona and Maryland State Grange. Harold was a charter member of the Frederick County Farm Museum and served as a past treasurer for 28 years. He was a life member of the Walkersville Future Farmers of America Alumni where he served also as treasurer. He was treasurer of the Glade Valley Community Show. Also was a member of the National Holsteins Association.

    A life member of the United Church of Christ in Walkersville, Harold was a member of the Tawasi Sunday School Class and was the Co-Chairman of the Wolfgang Candy Sales.

    Harold served on the Walkersville Board of Appeals for over 25 years and was a life member of the Walkersville Volunteer Fire Department. He loved to duck pin bowl and later in his years enjoyed basket Bingo.

    Survivors include his three children; Pamela S. Saylor and husband Robert of Frederick, Linda R. Powers and husband Mike of Frederick, and James E. Roderuck of Walkersville; nine grandchildren, Tim Saylor and wife Shelby, Bryan Saylor and wife Kimberley, Kevin Saylor and wife Kate, Greg Saylor, Shelly Beaton and husband Brendan, Tammy Ambrose and husband Rocky, Drew Roderuck, Matt Roderuck and Jamie Roderuck; eight great grandchildren, Mason, Kirsten and Jessica Saylor and Lyric, Megan Ford, Colby and Blake Ambrose and step great grandson Timmy Beaton; three sisters, Catherine H. Shriver of Oklahoma, Florence R. Garst and husband Richard of New Midway and Doris J. Flanigan of Rocky Ridge. Two sisters, Margaret L. and Charlotte E. Roderuck preceded him in death.

    A special thanks to the staff at Glade Valley Center for the wonderful care received and to special friend and former daughter-in-law Connie Wetzel.

    The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 PM at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Avenue, Walkersville. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 24th at 11:00 AM at the Glade United Church of Christ, 21 Fulton Avenue, Walkersville with Rev. Philip Curran officiating. Burial will follow in Glade Cemetery.

    Prominent County Dairy Farmer Dies G. Edgar Roderuck, Walkersville, Succums To Short Illness
    G. Edgar Roderuck, 59, well-known retired farmer of Walkersville, died Saturday afternoon at 1:15, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, where he was admitted Friday following a heart attack. Born in Frederick County he was the son of the late George T. and Fannie O. Lease Roderuck. He farmed in Glade Valley until eighteen months ago when he retired and moved to Walkersville. Mr. Roderuck was widely known for his outstanding herd of Holstein cattle which for a number of years won the state award for the highest production of butter-fat. He was a former president of the Frederick County Holstein Association and a member of the county D.H.I.A. for 25 years. He was also a member of the county Farm Bureau, served as a director for a number of years, and was a member of Glade Reformed Church, Walkersville. Surviving are his wife, Hazel Hedges Roderuck; four daughters, a son, a sister, Mrs. Elmer E. Thomas, Frederick and five grandchildren. The body is at the G. C. Barton funeral home in Walkersville, where services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Glade cemetery.

    David L. Hedges
    David L. Hedges died Thursday afternoon at 1 o’clock at the home of his son, Harry Z. Hedges, near Walkersville, after several years illness of general debility, aged 80 years, 1 month, 5 days. He was a son of the late Daniel and Catherine Devilbiss Hedges and a life-long member of Glad Reformed church, Walkersville. Three children, Harry Z. Hedges, near Walkersville; Solomon D. Hedges, Maplewood, N.J.; Mrs. Edgar Roderick, near Walkersville; one brother, Charles Hedges, near Walkersville, and a sister, Mrs. Minnie E. Cramer, Walkersville, survive. Eight grandchildren also survive. Funeral from the home of his son, Harry Z. Hedges, Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock with services conducted by Rev. Nelson C. Brown. Interment at the Glade cemetery.     Daniel Hedges, son of Enos and Catharine (Kemp) Hedges, was born on his father's farm in Frederick District. He was identified with rural life all his days. He died at the age of forty years and his children inherited his share of his father's estate. He used his right of franchise to further the interests of the Republican Party. Mr. Hedges was married to Catharine Devilbiss, daughter of Daniel and Lucretia Devilbiss. She died at Walkersville in 1896. Mr. and Mrs. Hedges are buried at Glad Cemetery, and they were affiliated with the Reformation Church.
