- Body Found in Lot Identified as Laborer
The body of a man who died Tuesday night in San Joaquin General Hospital, 12 hours after being found unconscious in a lot adjacent to 146 W. Weber, was identified yesterday as Alve W. Cassity, 43, a laborer, injured February 12 when he was struck by a car.
Coroner’s deputies said an autopsy showed he had a fractured skull, and that his death was caused by a cerebral hemorrhage.
However, deputies declined to link the injury to the traffic accident, pending laboratory examination of brain tissue to determine the approximate time the injury was sustained.
Police records show Cassity was struck 3 1/2 weeks ago by a car driven by Narcisco Cortez, 69, of 335 S. Madera, at Main and Center streets.
Witnesses told officers Cassity staggered into the path of Cortez’ car, but the driver was cited on charges of pedestrian right of way violation and for driving with improper equipment.
Funeral arrangements are pending in the Chapel of the Palms.
