  • Notes
    • Ray Edward Murdock passed away in his home surrounded by his family on January 31, 2021. He was born in Centralia, Kansas to Edward and Fern (Cassity) Murdock on November 3, 1941. Ray graduated from Bern High School in Bern, Kansas. He served in the Army National Guard in Sabetha, Kansas and worked for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in Topeka, Kansas before retiring after 38 years. He immediately found a new career and thoroughly enjoyed being a school bus driver for USD 372 Silver Lake Schools. Ray loved the energy of the kids he interacted with every day and found it immensely rewarding. He drove his daily route and volunteered as often as he could to drive to various school activities up until recently due to his health. Ray was also a volunteer fireman with the Silver Lake Fire Department for several years. He was a member of the Arab Shriners in Topeka, Kansas and remained a member of the Silver Lake Masonic Lodge, Lake Lodge #50. He had a passion for hunting and fishing that he shared with his children and grandchildren. Of all the things Ray loved in life, he loved his family most of all. On April 4, 1965 he was united in marriage to Ravae Kuenzi and they had two daughters: Vonita and Nichole. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jerry. Ray is survived by his wife, Ravae; daughters, Vonita (Lon) Lewis of Auburn, Kansas, Nichole Murdock of Kansas City, Missouri; grandchildren, Lukas, Kaleb, Peyten, Garet, Brandon, Jordan, Rodger, Roman, and Isaac; brothers, Carol and Alan; sister, Jean (Herb) Greenwade; sister-in-law, Dana Murdock; close family friend, Mickey Crump and his daughters, Victoria, Alyssa-Beth, McKenzy, and Olivia. Memorial contributions may be sent to USD 372 Silver Lake Schools Foundation, Silver Lake Fire Department, Wounded Warriors, or Silver Lake First Baptist Church. Private graveside services will be held at a later date.
