- California Man Died In Oklahoma Hospital
Daniel M. Nickell, of Napa, California, passed away at the Will Rogers Memorial Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Tuesday, May 20, 1947. The remains were brought here and funeral services were held at the Hill Funeral Home Friday afternoon, May 23, 1947, conducted by Rev. William Icenogle, and interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.
Daniel M., son of J.H. and Elizabeth Nickell, was born in Browning, Missouri, September 18, 1899. On August 16, 1937, he was united in marriage with Miss Ruby Lee McCourty, in Denver, Colorado.
Mr. Nickell is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ruby Lee Nickell, and two daughters, Shirley Jean and Lind Suzanne Nickell, of the home in Napa, California. Other survivors are his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Nickell, of this city; three sisters, Mrs. Loy Slater, Mendon, Missouri; Mrs. Zelma Sufflebean, Rothville, Missouri; Mrs. Lucille Williams, Browning, Missouri; two brothers, Carl Nickell, Rothville, Missouri; Kenneth Nickell, Brookfield, and a host of other relatives and friends.
In early manhood he became a member of the Christian Church at Browning.
Mr. Nickell was a lathe machinist for the Burlington here in Brookfield for ten years, being transferred to Greybull, Wyoming where he was employed for four years. While there he became a civil service employee and was sent to Rock Island, Illinois, for two years, then transferred to Mare Island, California, where he had been a tool maker at the Mare Island Navy Yard for the past seven years.
He came to Brookfield April 1, to visit his parents, and on April 12 was admitted to the McLarney Hospital for treatment. He was later transferred to the Will Rogers Memorial Hospital in Oklahoma City.
Mr. Nickell was a member of the Jackson Lodge, A.F. & A.M., No. 82 in Linneus, the Linn Chapter No.41, R.A.M., Brookfield, and the Coeur de Leon Commandery, No.14 of Brookfield.
