    Continental – Brief services will be at 1:45 p.m. Thursday in the Roy Hiltner residence, North Creek, and at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Wisterman Evangelical United Brethren Church, for John Nicholas Hiltner, three-week-old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Hiltner, North Creek. The infant died at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday in Defiance City Hospital. He was born there Aug. 22.
    The infant also is survived by the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hiltner, North Creek; the maternal grandmother, Mrs. Clifford Taylor, Continental; and maternal grandfather, Urban Spicer, Toledo; the paternal great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Corbin Sullivan, Contintenal; and Mrs. Lavina Hiltner, North Creek; and the maternal great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Miller, Ayersville, and Mr. And Mrs. Joseph Spicer, Sherwood.
    The Rev. C.W. Bollinger will officiate. Burial will be in Monroe Cemetery, here. The body will be removed from the Walls-Walker Funeral Home to the Hiltner home Wednesday afternoon.

    Shelva J. Hiltner, 73, of Continental, died 2:15 pm Saturday, September 25, 2010 at her residence. She was born May 30, 1937 in Defiance to the late Urban and Pauline (Miller) Speiser. In March, 1955, she married John Wesley Hiltner. He died September 4, 2003.Surviving are 2 children: Jeff (Jill) Hiltner of Ashland, Tammy (Rod)Herman of Continental; 1 brother: Terry (Mary) Speiser of Continental;2 step-brothers: Robert (Cheri) Taylor of Defiance and Richard (Kelli)Taylor of Palmetto, FL; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Shelva also preceded in death by a son: John Nicholas "Nickie" Hiltner.

    Mrs. Hiltner worked at the ASC office in Ottawa. She was a member of North Creek United Methodist Church, North Creek, Oh.

    Funeral Service will be Tuesday, September 28, 2010, 7:00 pm at Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Continental, with Pastor Charles Eagle officiating. Burial will be Wednesday, 11:00 am at Monroe Cemetery, Continental.

    Continental - Roy P. Hiltner, 76, died at 9:35 a.m. Tuesday at his home, at Route 1, Continental, near North Creek.
    He was born Oct. 23, 1911, in Putnam County, son of John and Lavina (Schafer) Hiltner. In 1933, he married Mary Sullivan, who survives. He was a retired farmer. He formerly managed the old Defiance airport, where he was a flight instructor, and also formerly managed the North Creek Telephone Co. He was a member of North Creek United Methodist Church, the National Rifle Association and the Putnam County Farm Bureau.
    Also surviving are three sons, John, Charles (Charlie Bill) and David, all of rural Continental; a daughter, Mrs. Rex (Barbara) Shalter of Route 2, Ottawa; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Ruth Simon of Route 2, Cloverdale; and a brother, Albert of Ann Arbor, Mich.
    He was preceded in death by a grandchild and a brother, Ray.
    Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Snyder Funeral Home. Rev. Marilyn Chivington will officiate. Burial will be in Monroe Cemetery. Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until services on Friday.

    She was born June 20, 1915, in Hillsboro to Corbin and Clara Anderson Sullivan, who preceded her in death. On June 21, 1933, she married Roy P. Hiltner, who died Nov. 17, 1987.

    Mrs. Hiltner was a homemaker. She was a member of North Creek United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women.

    Survivors include two sons, Charley Bill (Janet) Hiltner and David L.(Donna) Hiltner, both of Continental; a daughter, Barbara (Rex) Shalter, of Miller City; a sister, Jeanie Plummer, of Ottawa; eight grandchildren, Jeff Hiltner, Tammy Herman, Bill Hiltner, Amy Miller, Jim Hiltner, Matt Hiltner, Stacy Ruck and Erica Verhoff; two step-grandchildren, Craig Shisler and Robin Slattman; 21 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and her special friend and caregiver, Sister Marcille Liebrecht, of North Creek.

    She was preceded in death by a son, John W. Hiltner; a daughter-in-law, Shelva Hiltner; a grandson, John N. Hiltner; a brother, David "Mose" Sullivan; a sister, Helen Daeger; a sister-in-law, Eloise Sullivan; and a brother-in-law, Bill Plummer.

    Services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Continental. The Rev. Terry Porter will officiate. Burial will be in Monroe Cemetery, Continental.

    John N. Hiltner
    North Creek - Funeral services from John N. Hiltner, 75, who died Sunday morning of a heart ailment at his home near here, will be at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday in the residence and at 2 p.m. in the North Creek Methodist Church. The Rev. Ralph G. Younge will officiate. Burial will be in Monroe Cemetery.

    Mr. Hiltner was born in Richland Township, Defiance County, Oct. 2, 1878. He married Ida Levina Schafer Dec. 24, 1903. She survives.

    Other survivors include four children, Mrs. Ruth Simon, of Continental, Ray C. and Roy P., both of North Creek, and William A. of Williams Bay, Wis.; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Mrs. Clara While, Norristown, Pa., and Mrs. Barbara Effenberger, Jacksonville, Fla., and two brothers, Chris Hiltner, Marathon, Fla., and William J. Hiltner, Toledo, also survive.

    Mr. Hiltner was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, North Ridge. The body will remain at the residence until services. The Walls-Walker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

    North Creek - Mrs. Ida Levina Hiltner, 75, rt. 1 Continental, near North Creek, died unexpectedly at 9:15 p.m. Wednesday at Defiance City Hospital of a heart attack. She had been admitted Oct. 17 for minor surgery.

    The body, removed to the Walls-Walker funeral home, Continental, will be returned today to the residence, where services will be conducted at 1:45 p.m. Saturday, followed by rites at the North Creek Methodist church at 1 o'clock, Rev. C. W. Bollinger, Continental, Ev. United Brethren pastor, will officiate, and burial will be in Monroe cemetery.

    Mrs. Hiltner, the last of a family of 12 children of the late William and Mary (Morris0 Schafer, was born Aug. 19, 1880 in North Creek. She had spent her entire life in the North Creek area.

    Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. George (Ruth) Simon, Continental; three sons, Ray and Roy Hiltner, North Creek, and William Albert Hiltner, Williams Bay, Wis.; 16 grandchildren, and five great grand children.

    Her husband, John Hiltner, to whom she was married Dec. 24, 1903, died Sept. 5, 1954.

    Mrs. Hiltner was a member of the Country Women's Club, WCTU, North Creek Methodist church and WSCS.

    Survivors include a son, David L. “Mose” (Eloise) Sullivan of Continental; three daughters, Catherine Jean (Bill) Plummer of Ottawa, Mary Elizabeth Hiltner of North Creek and Helen Daegner of Paulding; a brother, Harold Anderson of Camarilla Springs, Calif.; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
