604 GEORGE STEWART BEDFORD Dec. 19, 1920 -July 3, 2014 George Stewart "Stew" Bedford, 93, passed away peacefully at his Chico residence on July 3rd, 2014. He was born and grew up in Greeley, Colorado, son of Rose Bell and John Everett Bedford. He was the last surviving child of what became known in the family as the "Thundering Herd" whose members included brothers Jack, Don and Dick, and sister Marjorie. Three of Everett's and Rose's sons served in WWII, including Stew who enlisted in the Army Air Corps, Don in the U.S. Coast Guard, and Dick in the U.S. Navy. Stew flew 49 missions from Grottaglie, Italy over Germany with the 449th Bombardment Group in the famous "Flying Boxcar" B-24 Liberator and reported colorful stories reminiscent of the novel Catch 22 - crews routinely checked parachutes to ensure silk canopies had not been removed for sale, and Stew often covered for an intoxicated bombardier, climbing from his remote tail-gunner position into the bomb-bay to arm ordinance. He fondly told of excursions into Grottaglie where the flyers would bring chocolate and cigarettes to local children, who made a living selling the contraband. He received the Three Oak Leaf Air Medal awarded for distinguished service to enlisted flyers, as well as his Gunner's Wings and the Victory Europe Medal. Stew and Mary Anderson married in June 1944. They have three surviving children, Sandra Rogers of Reno, Nevada (husband Jim, sons Ben, Judd, and Tyler), Gary Bedford of Boulder, Colorado (wife Anna), and Scott Bedford of San Mateo, California (wife Phyllis, daughters Sarah and Rebecca), along with five grandchildren. Stew married Myrti Neves in 1999 who was by his side at his passing. After the war, Stew returned home and dedicated himself to the healing arts, receiving his PhD in clinical psychology from Denver University in 1954. He moved his family to Chico in 1954 and served as resident psychologist in the Chico Mental Health Clinic until entering private practice in 1960. Stew was known as an imaginative and innovative therapist, and early in their development introduced bio-feedback and group therapy techniques to his practice. In his later years he re-dedicated his work to the study and healing of post traumatic stress syndrome, working with Viet Nam veterans in particular. Friends and family will celebrate a public mass Saturday, July 12th 10AM at Our Divine Savior Catholic Church, 566 East Lassen Avenue, Chico, to be followed by a veteran's memorial service at 11:30AM at Newton-Bracewell, 680 Camellia Way, Chico. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Wounded Warriors Project, or a charity of choice

614 GONE TO HER REWARD

At 11:30 o'clock in the forenoon, August 26, 1910, Mrs. A. H. Glasgow passed from the troubles of this life to the abiding peace of the great beyond. Death was not unexpected, her relatives here at Powell and her mother, Mrs. Geo. D. Blackburn, being in attendance. M. Luella Blackburn was born at Jacksonville, Illinois, March 29th. 1872. There she grew up to womanhood and received her education, being a graduate of the Jacksonville High School and the Illinois Woman's College, also at Jacksonville. It was there too that she became the wife of Mr. Glasgow on the 25th day of June, 1901. Several years later her health began to fail and with a view to recuperation, she spent the winter of 1907-1908 in San Diego, California, coming directly from there to join her husband here at Powell. At no time since has her health been perfect.

Though unable to mingle freely in society during her residence here, Mrs. Glasgow impressed all with whom she came in contact by her gentle and refined manners and by her womanly attainments. Mrs. Glasgow was a lifelong church worker, having joined the Methodist Episcopal Church at the age of twelve. She was also a charter member of the Union Presbyterian Church at Powell. While of necessity forced to be a quiet and retired member of this community, her untimely taking away is keenly felt and the heartfelt sympathies of our people go out to those who are left behind. There is left surviving her, a husband, her son, Arthur Allen aged seven, her parents and four sisters. Services and interment took place at Powell, Sunday, August 28th, 1910.

628 Grant Baskerville McNaughton
December 5, 1934 ~ February 2, 2011

Tehachapi, CA - Grant Baskerville McNaughton died tragically and very unexpectedly in the early morning hours of Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at the age of 76. He was an inspiration to everyone whose lives he touched and who had the good fortune to know him. Grant was born December 5, 1934 in San Antonio, Texas. He was the son of General Kenneth P. McNaughton and Elizabeth Baskerville. He is survived by his only sibling, his dear sister, Perry, and by his devoted and loving wife, Cathy. He is also survived by his former wife, Jeanne as well as his four sons and two stepchildren, Ken, Tim, Shan, Barry, Alex and Cate. He was affectionately called "Grantpa" by his 13 grandchildren: Aidan, Ryan, Megan, Sara, Lily, Natalia, Nicolas, Casey, Ben, Cole, Grace, Jack, and Samantha.
Grant lived an extraordinarily full life. A man of boundless energy, he was interested in everything and he gave 110% to everything he did.
He graduated from Pomona College and received his medical degree from UCLA Medical School in 1961. Grant joined the U.S. Air Force where he served a distinguished career, ultimately reaching the rank of Colonel. During the Viet Nam War, he was stationed in Laos where he ran a medical field hospital. He worked as a flight surgeon when stationed at Edwards A.F.B. and when he transferred to Norton A.F.B., he ran the Flight Safety Center. After retirement, he began practicing community medicine. To most, this tireless, compassionate and hard-working man was simply known as "Doc." His work as a doctor profoundly shaped his life and benefitted so very many of the lives he touched. Before moving to Tehachapi, he lived and worked in Monterey. He was director of Long Term Care at Tehachapi Hospital and was named physician of the year for three of the last five years. He kept a very busy schedule, helping and healing until a few days before his unexpected and very untimely death.
Grant had such a big heart and touched so many lives in so many profound ways. His passing deeply saddens us but we are comforted by the knowledge that he was clear in his beliefs and had enormous faith and hope in God.
A Memorial Celebration of Life Service will be held at Country Oaks Baptist Church at 2:00pm on Saturday, February 12, 2011. The address is:
20915 Schout Rd., Tehachapi, CA 93561.

In lieu of flowers, please honor Grant by offering a donation to the disadvantaged children of Pixabaj through: Outpost Ministries, P.O. Box 2239, Semmes, Alabama 36575. (228) 369-4354.
