Funeral services were held at Danbury, Neb., and at Webber, Kan., Tuesday for Mrs. H.L. McKeown, who died at McCook Sunday, Feb. 17. She was the former Floy Alena Kirkpatrick. Rev. Thomas of McCook conducted the funeral service, assisted by Rev. J.W. Frint of Webber. Interment was at Webber. The following obituary was read at the services:
Floy Alena Kirkpatrick was born March 20, 1889 to William R. and Elizabeth Kirkpatrick in Jewell County, Kansas, and died Feb. 17, 1957, in McCook, Neb., at the age of 67 years and almost 11 months.
On Feb. 7 1912, she was united in marriage to H.L. McKeown (or “Bert” as he was commonly called). To this unipn five children were born, two of whom preceded their mother in death as infants.
At an early age she accepted our Lord as her saviour and became a member of the Presbyterian church in Webber, Kan. She remained a faithful and regular worshiper in whatever church was near her home.
In 1934 she and her family came to Danbury, Neb., where for some 21 years Mr. McKeown was manager of the Valley Lumber Co., and where Mrs. McKeown was assistant postmaster for 13 years.
On retiring the two of them moved to McCook, Neb., about a year ago and had made their home there until the time of her death.
Mrs. McKeown was a past matron of Hope Chapter in the order of Eastern Star, in Danbury, having been Worthy Matron of that organization in 1945.
Besides her husband, Mrs. McKeown is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Veda Pew of Danbury, Neb.; two sons, Dwight L. McKeown of Kennewick, Wash., and Wendell E. McKeown of Long Beach, Calif.; three grandsons; four sisters and two brothers.
