    Funeral Rites Set For Alameda Man
    Alameda, Dec. 6. – Funeral services are being held this afternoon for Lawrence Lee Parker, 42, former Christian Science reader and president of the board of the Alameda church, who died Saturday after a protracted illness. Cremation at the California Crematorium is to follow the services held at the George Murphy chapel, 2312 Central Avenue. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Edna May Hamilton Parker, well know singer, a daughter, Jo-Anne, and the father, Sylvester Parker. An Alameda resident for a score of years, Parker made his home at 1116 Central Avenue.

    She was preceded in death by all three husbands, and her sons, Charles Harrison and Leonard Harrison. Survivors include her son, Willard Harrison, her brothers, Louis Carter, Philip Carter, and Don C. Carter, one granddaughter, and three great-grandchildren.

    Services were held at Eskridge United Methodist Church. Burial was in Eskridge Cemetery.

    Philip Ray Carter of Raleigh, died on July 14, 2006, of natural causes. He was 102, born on April 2, 1904 in Scranton, KS, to John Elam Carter and Emily Samantha Parker. He married Garnet Elizabeth Kastner in Manhattan, KS in 1927. She died in 1994.
    He spent his early life in and around Harveyville, KS attending Harveyville Grade School, Harveyville High School, and Kansas State University. He received a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1926. He attended the Harvard University Public Health School in 1939 and 1940, receiving a Master of Public Health.
    He was employed as a public health veterinarian from 1926 to 1940 by the Minnesota State Health Department. During this period, he was also an officer in the United States Army Reserve. In 1940 he was ordered to active duty in the Army Veterinary corps. He saw service in World War II in Newfoundland and Europe. After the end of the war in Europe, he continued in the occupation of Germany until 1947. He was commissioned in the Regular Army in 1946, and continued on military duty at various stations in the United States until his retirement in 1959 in the grade of colonel.
    He as his family moved to Boulder in 1959. He was active as a volunteer in several community functions, including the Civil Defense Program, and election judging. He was fond of traveling, square dancing, bowling, golf, and bridge. He belonged to many organizations including Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, Scabbard and Blade military fraternity, Colorado Veterinary Medical Association, American College of Veterinary Preventative Medicine, Retired Military Officers Association, Boulder Genealogical Society, Rocky Mountain Climbers Club, Boulder Chautauqua Association, and Boulder Senior Bowling league.
    He is survived by a son, Dr. Alan Bruce Carter, by his daughter-in-law Jane Carter, and by several nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; by his wife; by five brothers, Frank L. Carter, Gordon J. Carter, William P. Carter, Louis W. Carter and John C. Carter; and by four sisters, Edith J. Wood, Metta V. Krein, Eva M. Smith, and Ruth Carter. He moved to Raleigh in 2004.
    The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the physicians and staff and Springmoor-Stuart Health Center, and especially to Jeannie Smith and Elizabeth Ballentine who were his personal caregivers. Interment will be in the mausoleum at Green Mountain Cemetery in Boulder.
    Funeral service will be held at 12 noon, August 4, 2006 at Howe Mortuary, 1701 West South Boulder Rd. Lafayette, CO.
    Memorial contributions may be made to the Dr. Philip R. Carter Discretionary Fund, or the Garnet E. Carter Discretionary Fund, Kansas State University Foundation, Manhattan, KS, 66502-2911.

    Mr. Carter was a pipefitter at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. where he worked 28 years before he retired. He was the first president of United Rubber Workers Local No. 307 in Topeka. He also had worked in dairy manufacturing in Washington, D.C.

    He was born Jan. 12, 1907, at Scranton, the son of John Elam and Emily Parker Carter. He was graduated from Eskridge High School and from Kansas State University in 1932.

    Mr. Carter lived in Topeka since 1945.
    He was a a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, United Rubber Workers Retirees, American Association of Retired Persons, Capital City Barbershop Chorus, and New Beginnings singing group.

    He was married to Dorothy E. Newlin June 17, 1934, at Lawrence. She survives.
    Other survivors include a daughter, Rosemary Yoho, Topeka; a brother, Philip R. Carter, Boulder, Colo.; three grandsons, four great-grandchildren and a step-grandchild.

    Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mr. Carter will lie in state after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Institute of Logopedics, 1001 Mulvane, Topeka, 66604.

    Greta and her husband and their 16-year-old son were in the family car going for a Saturday evening visit with friends when, at 7:17 PM, they were crossing the train tracks near the train station at Wakarusa, KS. A train that was running 15 minutes late, suddenly came around the bend and crashed into their car, pushing the car about fifty feet down the track and instantly killing all three of the Porters. The older Porters were thrown about fifty feet from the car. Karl Jr. was thrown also, but less far. They were in a 1939 Plymouth automobile.

    They had a daughter also, Irma Eveline Porter, who lived at Junction City, KS at the time of her parents' death. Irma was married to Ralph D. Winters. Irma was born 18 Nov 1917 in Auburn, KS. She died 14 Sep 2001 in Las Vegas, NV.

    Went peacefully to Heaven on October 7, 2013, after a brief illness. She was 91 years old.

    She was born in Paxio, Kansas on January 15, 1922. Her parents were Elan Ray and Eva May (Carter) Cripps. Lucille married Jean H. Wagner in 1939 and they were married 59 years. They had two daughters, Eva and Barbara.

    Lucille moved to California with her mother, stepfather, two sisters and a brother when she was 10 years old. She lived in Van Nuys, California for 81 years. She was a Christian and was a member of Van Nuys Baptist Church, Vanowen Baptist Church and North Hollywood Baptist Church. Lucille worked with White Cross Missionary Projects for over 70 years. She sold Avon products for 49 1/2 years, and was the top seller in the Valley for many of those years. Her husband, Jean Wagner; her parents and step-father, Caleb C. Smith; sisters, Helen Quatre and Lois Brown; and brother, Robert Cripps, preceded her in death.

    She is survived by her daughter, Eva Pickren and husband Jack; her daughter, Barbara Johnson; her five grandsons, John Pickren, James Pickren, David Pickren, Erik Johnson and Matthew Johnson; her six great grandchildren, Kaelie Johnson, Kaitlyn Johnson, Claire Johnson, Jacob Johnson, Miles Pickren and Tyler Pickren. Other close relatives were her niece, Emily Petito; and her children, George Williams, Timothy Williams, Orlando Petito, Louisa Saloma, Joseph Petito and Elizabeth Petito; and her many grandchildren.

    Lucille was a caring and friendly person. She loved her family very much, and everyone will miss her.

    Her Funeral Services were handled by Crawford Mortuary and she was buried at Oakwood Memorial Park in Chatsworth on October 11, 2013.

    Born Oct. 23, 1924, in Paxico, Kan., he lived in Escondido for 10 years. He was lead mechanic for Kaiser Cement corp. for 27 years. He was a World War II Navy veteran.
    Mr. Cripps was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Madolyn Cripps, earlier this year. He is survived by his son, Ronald Cripps of Escondido; daughter and son-in-law Cathryn and Leonard Fyock of Sunnyvale; sister Lucille Wagner of Van Nuys; and grandchildren Kimberly Wilson and John Hooker.
    A private cremation is planned.

    Dr. Alan Bruce Carter of Raleigh, NC. A beloved husband, physician, and friend. Born in Minneapolis, MN on July 27, 1936 and passed away in Minneapolis on Oct. 28, 2015 with his beloved wife and family by his side. Preceded in death by parents, Col. Philip R. and Garnet Elizabeth Carter; brother-in-law, George Oberstar. Survived by beloved wife, Jane Oberstar-Carter; in-laws, John (Ardeth) Oberstar, Marvin (Elizabeth) Charloff, Leroy (Bernadette) Petrick, Paul Oberstar; many close and loving nieces and nephews. Alan attended Duke University and Duke Medical School where he graduated and became a board certified pediatrician. His pediatric residency was at Colorado General Hospital. He then spent two years as an Army physician in Heidelberg, Germany. He obtained his child and adult psychiatry training at Duke University. Alan attended Duke Chapel and at one time was in the choir. He was in a private practice for many years in Raleigh, NC. He was involved in setting up a number of child treatment programs at various mental health centers. Alan belonged to many medical societies and was active in the West Raleigh Rotary Club. He also was the consultant with a pastoral counseling service for twenty years. His interests were many, but especially medicine, his family, music, and great literature. Alan and Jane had a wonderful life together. We want to thank Dr. Lee, the Mayo Clinic, Dr. Sborov and the Minnesota Oncology staff, and his wonderful family and friends. Funeral service will be held at 12 PM on Sun. Nov. 1 at Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapel in Edina, MN with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Reception to follow. Private family interment Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing, MN.

    Mrs. Rosemary Ann Yoho
    Mrs. Rosemary Ann Yoho, 53, Topeka, died Tuesday, March 1, 1988, at her home. Police said the death was suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning. She had cancer.

    Mrs. Yoho was a director of Graphic Art Services at Washburn University before she became ill. She previously worked as a graphic designer for Josten's Inc. and several Topeka advertising agencies.

    She was born Jan. 29, 1935, at Lawrence, the daughter of John C. and Dorothy Newlin Carter. She attended Topeka public schools and was graduated from Topeka High School. She was graduated from Washburn University in 1971.

    She was married to Max Yoho in 1954 in Topeka. He survives.
    Other survivors include three sons, Alex Yoho, Stuart Yoho and Nicholas Yoho, all of Topeka; her mother, Mrs. Dorothy Newlin Carter, Topeka; four grandchildren; and a step-grandchild.

    Mrs. Yoho was cremated. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Shawnee County Unit, 2913 Plass Court, 66611.

    Curtis William Porter passed away Sunday, June 15 at Valley Care Medical Center.

    He was born October 21, 1922, on a farm southwest of Topeka, KS, to Emory William and Alma Jane (Fox) Porter. Curt attended Auburn, KS, Elementary school and was graduated from Auburn High School in 1939. He served in the Air Force from April, 1944 to May, 1946, putting radar in our bombers going to the South Pacific. Upon his discharge from the Air Force, he went to work for the Kansas Department of Transportation, first on the roads as a striper, then in the sign shop for a total of 34 years. He was president of the local council and the state council for Kansas Public Employees Union for several years. He also owned and operated a janitorial service for 7 years before retiring in 1987.

    Curt and Glennyce were married September 19, 1970. They were full-time RV'ers for 16 years. They spent their winters in the Rio Grande Valley of south Texas and their summers traveling our country from Alaska to Florida and California to Maine. For several summers they worked at Clinton State Park near Lawrence, KS. In 1989, they volunteered in the George Washington National Forest in Virginia during the summer. In 1999, they began four summers of volunteering in the White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire, ending in 2003, when they were awarded Volunteers of the year for the Eastern Division which included 14 national forests in 9 different states. They have volunteered at the Valley Care Thrift Shop in Livermore for the past 10 years. They are members of Trinity Baptist Church in Livermore California.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dale, a sister, Ruth, son-in-law, Terry Keeling, and his first wife, Gloria Luttjohann Porter. Curt is survived by his wife, Glennyce, four children, Mike (Sandi); Teresa; Kim (Gerry) and Jack (Sue); nine grandchildren; Monique (Jake), Michael (Theresa), Shane, Christa, Seth, Vicki (Eric), Sarah (David), Becky (Hazey) and Katie and 10 great-grandchildren; Isabella, Lance, Michael III, Elisha, Eden, Andrew, Alex, Ethan, Audrey and Toby, a niece and several nephews.

    Greta Porter and her husband Karl Porter and their 16-year-old son Karl Jr. were in the family car going for a Saturday evening visit with friends when, at 7:17 PM, they were crossing the train tracks near the train station at Wakarusa, KS. A train that was running 15 minutes late, suddenly came around the bend and crashed into their car, pushing the car about fifty feet down the track and instantly killing all three of the Porters. The older Porters were thrown about fifty feet from the car. Karl Jr. was thrown also, but less far. They were in a 1939 Plymouth automobile.

    The daughter, Irma Eveline Porter, lived at Junction City, KS at the time of her parents' death. Irma was married to Ralph D. Winters. Irma was born 18 Nov 1917 in Auburn, KS. She died 14 Sep 2001 in Las Vegas, NV.
