    San Juan – Vera Dorothy Melson, 88, died June 6, 1993, at San Juan Nursing Home.
    Born in Wapello, Iowa, Melson had lived in Richland, Iowa before moving to the Rio Grande Valley in 1945, and the San Juan area 25 years ago. She was a Home Economics teacher. She was a member of the San Juan United Methodist Church for 50 years, past matron of Order of Eastern Star, member of San Juan Music Club, and holder of a lifetime teaching certificate for the state of Texas.
    Survivors include a son, Joe Melson of San Juan; a brother, Orval Schmeiser of Wapello, Iowa; a sister, Alice Robertson of McAllen; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
    Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. today at Kreidler Memorial Chapel on North Taylor Road. Burial will be at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in McAllen.
    Memorial contributions may be made to the San Juan United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 47, San Juan 78589, American Cancer Society, c/o Marjorie Naylor, 211 Daffodil, McAllen or to a charity of choice.

    Special to the Democrat
    Wapello, Ia. – Joseph Schmeiser, 64, retired farmer, died suddenly in his home in West Wapello Saturday night following a heart attack. The son of Jacob and Mary Magdalene Reese Schmeiser, he was born at Franklin Mills, north of Burlington, Feb. 10, 1876, and April 10, 1901, married Mary Rieman. The ceremony was performed by his father, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran church. To this union four children: Orval, Wapello; twin sister, Ora Marie, who died 29 years ago; Mrs. Mearl Melson, Richland, and Mrs. Clayton Robertson, Morning Sun, where born. Mr. Schmeiser resided on a farm near Burlington until [can't read date], when the family moved to the farm west of Wapello, now operated by his son, Orval. The home had been in Wapello the past two years.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Presbyterian church which he had attended the past few years. The Rev. John R. Fraser and the Rev. B.G. Hankins, Mt. Pleasant, will officiate. The service will be preceded by prayer in the Jamison Dudgeon funeral home. Burial will be in the Wapello cemetery. The widow and children and two sisters, Mrs. Tabitha Riepe and Miss Talitha Schmeiser, Burlington, and two brothers, Emmanuel, Wapello, and Ben Schmeiser, Sperry, survive.

    I, Friederich Riemann, of the County of Des Moines and the State of Iowa, being of full age and of sound and disposing mind and memory, do hereby make, publish and declare the following to be my last will and testament, hereby expressly revoking all former wills by me at any time heretofore made.

    Item 1. I direct that all my just debts be paid and discharged as soon after my death as practicable.

I give, devise and bequeath the sum of ten dollars ($10.00) to each of my four children now living, that is to day: to Wilhelmine Meier the sum of ten dollars, to Anna Maria Wunnenberg the sum of ten dollars, To Friederich Wilhelm the sum of ten dollars and to Maria Elisabeth Riemann the sum of ten dollars.

    Item 3. All the rest, residue and remainder of my estate, real, personal and mixed, of whatever kind or description and wherever situated, not disposed of as hereinbefore directed I give, devise and bequeath unto my wife Dorathea Riemann to be hers absolutely, with the full right to give, devise and bequeath the same to our children in the manner she may eleact and think best.

    Item 4. It is further my will that the provisions made in Item 3. Hereof shall be in lieu of dower and any and all rights of whatever kind, statutory or otherwise the said Dorathea Riemann may have as my widow.

    Wapello, Ia., July 29. – The descendants of Mrs. Dorothy Reimann held their annual reunion Sunday at the chautauqua park at Mediapolis. Mrs. Reimann, who is 88 years of age was the guest of honor. A picnic dinner featured the noon hour and the afternoon was spent socially and pictures of the group were taken.
    The personnel included Mrs. Riemann, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wunnenberg, Mr. and Mrs. George Reimann, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Whitaker, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Thomas [Thomes], Mr. and Mrs. Roy Anderson, Nora, Retta and Roy Reimann, Ralph and Alfred Wunnenberg, Winona and Marcella Reimann, Genevieve Thomas [Thomes], Orval Anderson and William Walker of Sperry; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Meyer of West Burlington; May Wunnenberg, Elmer Ruschill, Donald Sullivan of Burlington, and Mrs. Joseph Schmeiser and children Vera, Orval and Alice Schmeiser of Wapello.

    Mrs. Dorothea Riemann, 93, Wapello township in Louisa county, died at the Schmeiser home near Wapello Saturday night at 8:30.
    She was the widow of Frederick Riemann who died in June, 1896. Surviving are a son, Fred Riemann, Sperry, and three daughters, Mrs. Fred Wunnenberg of Sperry, Mrs. Joseph Schmeiser of Wapello and Mrs. Fred Meyer of West Burlington.
    Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and a brother, William Bremer of Burlington.
    Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday from the Burnett-Wapello funeral home. The Rev. R. R. Belter, pastor of Bethany Lutheran church, will conduct the service. Burial will be in St. Paul's church cemetery, Kingston.

    Wapello, Ia., March 10 – Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothea Riemann, 93, who died in the Schmeiser home near Wapello, will be held Wednesday at the Burnett-Wallen funeral home at Burlington, conducted by the Rev. R.R. Belter, pastor of Bethany Lutheran church. Burial will be in the St. Paul’s church cemetery at Kingston.
    Mrs. Riemann was born in Germany Oct. 12, 1842, and came to America in 1865. Her husband, Frederick Riemann, in June 1896. Surviving are a son, Frederick Riemann, Sperry, three daughters, Mrs. Fred Wunnenberg, Sperry; Mrs. Joseph Schmeiser, Wapello, and Mrs. Fred Meyer, West Burlington; also a brother, William Bremer, Burlington; 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
