Otto Wunnenberg, interested in general farming, was born in Benton township, this county, Feb. 28, 1860, his parents being Henry and Amelia (Rayfield) Wunnenberg. The father was a native of Germany, and on coming to America made his way to the i interior of the country, settling in Benton township, soon after his marriage. He first purchased forty acres of land, and with resolute will and laudable ambition began the development of his farm, to which he added, as financial condition madade it possible, until he was the owner of two hundred and sixty-five acres of rich and productive land, being recognized as one of the most successful farmers of his community. He was respected by all for what he accomplished, and for the manner of his business dealings. He passed away in April, 1898, at the age of seventy-nine years, his death being regretted by many friends. His wife departed this life in April, 1888, at the age of fifty-eight years.

Otto Wunnenberg acquired his education in the schools of Franklin township, although his home was in Benton township. He was reared to the occupation of farming, which he has always followed, and after his marriage he rented a tract of land in Franklin township. In 1895 he purchased seventy acres of land in Sections 2 and 11, Franklin township, and he also has ten acres of timber land which was a part of the old homestead. He carries on general agricultural pursuits, and also raises hogs, mostly of the Poland China breed, and has a good herd of cattle on his farm. His place is a well-improved property, the thrifty appearance of which is indicative of the careful supervision of a painstaking and progressive owner.

Mr. Wunnenberg was united in marriage, Sept. 29, 1886, to Miss Anna Sielerman, a daughter of Frederick and Sophia (Dirkmeyer) Sielerman, whose history appears on another page. Mrs. Wunnenberg was born in Benton township, Oct. 5, 1861, and there grew up, attending the same school with her husband, and also the German parochial school. Unto our subject and his wife have been born four children: Clarence, Villars, Mary, and Grace.

While not an aspirant for office, he votes with the Democratic party. While they were reared in the Lutheran church, Mr. Wunnenberg now attends the Presbyterian church.
