- James F. Berry
The funeral of Jas. F. Berry, whose death was reported in the News last week, was held at Harrisville on Friday last. The service was held at the Baptist church of which he was church clerk and a deacon. The service was in charge of the pastor, Rev. Mr. Courtney, which was opened by a touching prayer by Rev. Sills, pastor of the Methodist church, after which the pastor paid a beautiful tribute to the life and character of the deceased. He then called upon Revs. W.S. Landrum, of D’Lo and J.P. Williams of Mendenhall, both of whom responded in beautiful eulogies of their friend and brother. The Masonic fraternity then took charge of the body which was carried to the cemetery near by, and after preliminaries incident to its beautiful service was complete, member of the Ku Klux Clan came forward in full regalia, and held a beautiful service, paying a loving tribute to the deceased, closing with a fervent prayer, after which the Masonic service was completed.
The large crowd in attendance from all sections of the county was evidence of the love and esteem in which Jimmie Berry was held by all that knew him. He was about 49 years of age and is survived by his wife, twelve children, six boys and six girls, his father and two brothers.
The News in common with a host of friends, tender heart-felt condolence to the bereaved relatives in their great sorrow.
