Graveside services will be held at Worsley Cemetery, Bronaugh, Mo. Blanche is preceded in death by her husband, Lee Roy Hall; daughter, Connie Moffatt; grandson, Richard Lee Hall; and several brothers and sisters. Blanche was born Oct. 20, 1933, in Fort Scott, Kan. She was an active member of American Legion Auxiliary, the Spring Hill United Methodist Church and was also a member of the "Red Hat Society." She worked for the Spring Hill School district in the cafeteria, and enjoyed playing Bunko and just sitting down to visit with people. She was a loving mother, homemaker and a devoted wife. She was an excellent cook, making many loving meals from scratch, and was known for her noodles, pies and fried chicken, having wonderful Sunday dinners. She was strong in her faith and loved her family. She will be deeply missed. She is survived by her children, Steven Hall, Charles Hall (Kathy), Cheryl Diane Sawicki (John), Gregory Henry "Peach" Hall (Joyce Cook), and Kelly Lynn Gonzalez (Alberto); brother, Earl Severy; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild on the way. 159 | C. Umbanhowar, former B 4 chairman dies. Indianapolis, Ind. - C. E. Umbanhowar, Big Four general chairman from 1922 to 1942, died here Nov. 28. Vice-President W.E.B. Chase represented President W. F. Kennedy at the funeral Dec 1. In a wire of condolence to Mrs. Umbanhowar at the family resident, 1929 Pennsylvania Ave. North Indianapolis, President W. P. Kennedy said: "As a friend of Brother Umbanhowar of long standing, I share your sorrow in your bereavement. On behalf of all officers and members of the BRT whom he served so long and faithfully, I extend sincere sympathy." Umbanhowar, a former president of Lodge 699, joined the BRT in 1913, and held membership in Lodges 374 and 289 before transferring to Lodge 699, of which he was a member at the time of his death. He held a 40-year membership pin. He served as deputy president at various times since 1947, and was a delegate to the BRT Convention of 1950. 163 | Carol Mae DeMoss, 75, of Princeton and formerly of Danville, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2015, at Liberty Village in Princeton, Illinois. Carol was born on Dec. 6, 1939 in Boston, Massachusetts to Roger and Phyllis (Easton) Feldman. She grew up in Boston, and her family then moved to California where she finished high school. Carol met the love of her life, William DeMoss in Norwalk, California and the two were married on Aug. 2, 1957. They later moved back to Danville where they would raise their family. Carol leaves behind her four children, Don (Susan) DeMoss, Edward “Ed” (Cindy) DeMoss, Roger (Cindy) DeMoss and Jennie Dale; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and her brother, Bill Feldman. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; a son, Michael DeMoss; a brother, Roger Feldman and a sister, Janet Foley. Carol was a homemaker, and enjoyed raising her four children and cooking. She was well known for her fudge and homemade dinner rolls. She also was a great quilter. After losing William in 1987, Carol returned to school and graduated from Eastern with a bachelor’s degree in library science and a minor in psychology. 177 | Charles F. McGee, 94, of Catlin, passed away at 8:40 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, while in the Palliative Care Unit at the VA Illiana Health Care System in Danville. He was born April 10, 1919 in Batestown, the son of Charles E. and Nellie Byerly McGee. He married Mary Hawkins on Feb. 17, 1943 in Hernando, Mississippi. She preceded him in death on Jan. 12, 2001. He also was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Marjorie Jones and one brother, Robert McGee. Surviving are his three children, C. Michael (Linda) McGee, David A. (Kathryn) McGee and Jeanie (Scott) Church; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, JoAnn Fetters; three nieces, Luanne Kees, Janice Hawkins and Jackie Land; three nephews, Curt McGee, Bobby McGee and Steve Hadley and special friend, Glenda Eaton. He was a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He received a Purple Heart after being wounded at Guadalcanal. After serving his country, he returned home to Catlin where he farmed for over 40 years. He was the first recipient of the Outstanding Young Farmer Award in Vermilion County. He had been released from Cameron Hospital, Bryan, last week after a few days stay. He was born Aug. 18. 1872, in Vermilion County, Ill., a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Knight. He married Bessie Jackson, Danville, Ill., in March 1900. He operated a rest home in Edgerton for four years and moved to Hicksville in 1946. In 1952 he moved to Kunkle. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Dairy Eisele, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a nephew, Dale Tolbert, Danville, Ill., and a niece, Mrs. Ruth Keiser, Toledo. Born in Penfield, Ill., he lived at Reynold before moving to Remington in 1971. He was operator of Sinclair service station at Reynold for several years, retiring in 1971. Prior to that he was a mechanic at Jack Loy Chevrolet Garage at Monon for many years. In 1940 he was married to Betty Davis, who survives. Gritton was held Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock from the Methodist Episcopal church, the pastor, Rev. T. Lee Knotts, conducting the service. Burial took place in the Odell cemetery. A quartette composed of Mrs. Arthur Marland, Mrs. M.C. Fonger, J.. Van Ness and Charles Norse rendered two selections. The Pallbearers were J.E. Pfingston, P.H. Foley, John Moore, W.D. Abbaduska, John De Boer and William Snyder. The following from out of town attended the funeral: Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Gritton and daughter of Waukeshaw, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bennett of Armon, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Rolla Yeazel, Louis Stroud, Mr. and Mrs. George Hedges, Miss Grace Fox and Miss Florence Stroud of Fairmount; Louis Gritton and Miss Ethel Gritton of Danville; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Martin of Bloomington; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Donbier, of Joliet; Mr. and Mrs. E. Silvers, of Le Roy, and Mrs. Ida Brown, of Dwight. Mr. Gritton was born at Fairmount, Ill, March 5, 1864, where he grew to young manhood. He was united in marriage with Miss Myrtle E. Silvers at Fairmount, in the year 1887. They resided there a few years and later moved to Meadville, Mo. To this union four children were born, Lawrence, Grace, Floyd, and one child died in infancy. One son, Floyd, preceded his father in death in the year 1916, and his wife also passed away while living at Meadville. On July 27, 1916 he united in marriage with Mrs. Hattie Donbier, of Odell, who is left with his son, Lawrence Gritton, of Waukeshaw, Wis., the daughter of Mrs. Edward Bennet of Armon, Wis., and one step-son, Joseph Donbier of Joliet. He is also survived by six grandchildren, one step-grandson, one sister, Mrs. George Hedges, of Fairmount and one brother, Louis Gritton of Danville. Mr. Gritton had been in failing health for the past several months, and the past few weeks had been confined to his home his death occurring Monday morning at 8:30 o'clock. For the past several years Mr. Gritton was engaged in the grocery and meat market business here, and had a wide circle of friends. 194 | Claude M. Boyd Dead. Claude M. Boyd, aged 24 years, the son of A.C. and Flora Boyd, died at his home on June 3, 1908 of peritonitis. Claude M. Boyd was born Oct. 10th 1884. On Feb. 11th 1906 he was married to Miss Stella S. Gritton. To this union was born one child, a girl, both of whom survive him. He was a member of the M.E. Church at Porter's Chapel, a good husband and father and a good neighbor. Funeral services were conducted at Union by Rev. J.M. 195 | Claude S. Gritton HARRODSBURG Claude S. Gritton, 82, of Lawrence-burg died Monday at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born Nov. 10, 1910, in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Lige Davis and Etta Shy Gritton. He was a retired 26-year Army warrant officer and a member of Lawrence-burg Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. He was the widower of Elizabeth Ann Davenport Gritton. ' Survivors include a stepdaughter, Iris June Ellecamp of Crofton, Mo.; a sister, Juanita Healey of Mercer County; and four step-grandchildren. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ransdell Funeral Chapel, Harrodsburg, by the Rev. Elgin Emmons. Burial with military rites will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. December 15, 1992. 198 | Cleo B. Gritton, 87, of Fort Dodge passed away Sunday, April 29, 2012 at Trinity Regional Medical Center. Cleo is survived by her daughter, Sharon Schachtner of Fort Dodge; son, Roger (Patricia) Gritton of Tampa, FL;5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; son-in-law, Jim Buchan of Cedar Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Gertrude (Hill) Carver; husband, Paul; daughter, Vicki Buchan; brothers, Paul and Lewis Carver; sisters, Bonnie Reno and Fay Sweeney; son-in-law, Leonard Schachtner. Cleo Bessie Carver was born August 16, 1924 in Aledo, IL. She attended school in Aldeo and graduated from Aledo High School. In October of 1941 she married Paul I. Gritton. The couple established their home in Rock Island, IL. Cleo was employed at the Rock Island Arsenal for a period of time. The family then moved to Fort Dodge in 1952. Besides being a homemaker, Cleo assisted her husband at the Fort Dodge office of the Des Moines Register. 199 | Commercial News Danville, Il 16 May 1919 JOHN S LEE DIES AT HIS COUNTRY HOME PROMINENT FARMER HAD BEEN A SUFFERER FOR YEARS; PARALYSIS John S Lee, one of the best known residents of Blount township, died at 12:30 o’clock Thursday afternoon at his home for and ½ miles northwest of the city. He had resided there for 70 years. Thirteen years ago he was stricken with paralysis and for more than a year following the seizure was in a critical condition, but had greatly improved. Two weeks ago he suffered a second attack. Mr Lee was born July 12, 1844, in Crawford County and came here when barely past four years of age. He lived forty years on the farm his father had located and thirty years on the place nearby which he himself owned. He is survived by three sons and two daughters, SA Lee, Chicago Heights; WH Lee, Danville; Ardella, wife of CA Shanks, Collison; and Clara, wife of CB Bath, a farmer residing near the Lee home.
