208 Clara Marcum
Sunday, October 19th, 1930, Robert Reed and I talked at the grave of Clara Marcum, one of my pupils who attended my school in the years of 1910 and 1911. She was a good girl and a good scholar. I am sure she was a kind and affectionate wife, a tender mother and a devoted Christian.
Clara made friend with all who came in contact with her. We extend our sympathy to Mr. Marcum and the children who survive here.
Clare will be greatly missed in the home and in this neighborhood, but our loss is Heaven’s gain.

A voice we love is stilled,
A place is vacant in our home
Which never can be filled.”

He grew up farming for three generations near his beloved hometown of Wallace, IN. As class president and valedictorian, Cliston graduated in 1950 from Wallace High School. On October 26, 1952, he married the love of his life, Icy Nadine Murray, in Wallace's Phanuel Lutheran Church. They were married over 60 years before her passing in 2013.

Between stints in Arkansas and Kansas, he completed the postal operations program of the Adjutant General's School. He was stationed in Germany, where Nadine joined him. Travel became his hobby forever after. In 2013, two gold star mothers chose Cliston to place a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington DC on behalf of all Lafayette-area veterans in his Honor Flight. Cliston also served his community as a leader in the Wallace Masonic Lodge, Wallace Lutheran Cemetery Board, Fountain County Farm Bureau Board. Now a member of the Sterling Christian Church, in his childhood, he belonged to the Phanuel Lutheran Church, founded by his ancestors. Later, he became a member and leader in the Wallace Christian Church. In addition to farming, Cliston was a lead machinist at RR Donnelly & Sons in Crawfordsville, IN for 35 years. He was known for his ability to fix anything. He believed there is always another way to do everything! Cliston was happiest when he could make someone's life better, easier, or more fun! He taught countless people to drive and water ski. He especially loved to travel and share his adventures.

He was the amazing father of two daughters and proudest grandpa of two. He loved his extended family of nieces, nephews and friends and all those who had adopted him as their second dad or "G-Pa." His family was always his top priority! He went to extraordinary lengths to not miss their life events, big and small. 225 Cold ruled out as cause of death
Hamilton woman, 70, found dead in chilly house
By terry Boschert and Bill Robinson, Post Staff Reporters
Hamilton – The cause of a 70-year-old Hamilton woman’s death had not been determined Tuesday.
Pauline McDaniel, 410 S. G St., was found dead by Hamilton police about 7 p.m. Monday.
Police said the pilot light on her furnace was off, and the furnace was not working. Police reported that all the other utilities and the gas stove were working.
A neighbor saw the front door at the McDaniel home partly open. When the neighbor saw Mrs. McDaniel, a widow, lying on the living room couch, she called police.
Dr. Richard P. Burkardt, Butler county coroner, performed an autopsy Tuesday but did not issue a ruling the cause of death. He said the death remains under investigation.
Thomas O. Marsh, an investigator for the coroner, said the temperature inside the home was 33 degrees when he checked it at about 7:30 p.m. Monday. He said it probably had been colder because water in the kitchen sink and the bathroom was frozen.
Marsh said an attempt will be made to determine whether the woman died before or after the furnace quit working.
Police said the thermostat was set at 80 degrees. Police said instructions on how to light the pilot light were found on the living room floor, but they did not indicate whether they were for the furnace or for the water heater, whose pilot light also was off.
Police said neighbors reported seeing Mrs. McDaniel on Christmas Eve. Marsh said the woman had been ill for some time.

246 Darrtown Woman Dies of Burns; Babies Saved
Fire Destroys Dwelling; Oil Poured On Flames
Mack Brock Forced To Break Windos To Get Wife Out of Home – Three Children In Another Room Escape Injury
Mrs. Mattie Brock, 33, wife of Mack Brock, a farmer living near Darrtown, died at 10 a.m. Thursday in Ft. Hamilton hospital, the result of burns suffered when the Brock home was destroyed by fire Wednesday evening. Her burns covered practically her entire body and were deep. Most of her clothing was burned from her body.
Mrs. Brock was in the house at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday with her three children, the eldest three years of age. She was engaged in the preparation of the evening meal while her husband was at work outside the house. Hearing an explosion followed by screams of Mrs. Brock, he ran to the house.
Barred At Doors
Entrance was delayed by the fact that he found the doors locked. Breaking a window, he entered the dwelling, finding Mrs. Brock in the kitchen, a mass of flames. The interior of the kitchen also was in flames. Brock carried Mrs. Brock outside and fought to extinguish the flames.
She had poured kerosene on a fire in the stove and the flash set fire to her dress.
By good fortune the three Brock children, the youngest nine months, were in another room of the downstairs part of the house. None of them was burned, being brough to safety by their father.
Neighbors living three-quarters of a mile distant saw the flames and gave the alarm. The house, a frame dwelling, burned rapidly and was entirely destroyed. A summer kitchen located near the house also was burned. Very little of the contents could be carried out so rapid was the advance of the flames. The loss is estimated at $3,000.
Stove Blamed
Mrs. Brock was taken to the office of Dr. A.B. Wilkle in Darrtown by Fred Kramer, on whose farm the Brocks were tenants. Dr. Wilkle directed Mrs. Brock be taken to the Ft. Hamilton hospital.
The Brock home is on the Fred Kramer farm, one and one-half miles north of Darrtown, on the Richmond pike.
The three Brock children were taken to the home of relatives near Darrtown.
Mrs. Brock is survived by three children, Nellie Frances, 3; Enoch, 2, and a baby girl, Alice, 9 months old. Mrs. Brock was burned on the hands and arms when he rescued the baby from the flames by climgin through a window in the house.
The Brock family, one of the oldest in Darrtown, lived on the Kramer farm for the past years. The house is said to more than 50 years old.
The Kramer family, which owns the farm, live about one-half mile from the Brock residence. Mrs. Kramer saw the flames first and notified the Darrtown telephone exchange.
