| 851 | Sharon Funeral for Oscar Baird Funeral services were, held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sharon R. P. church for Oscar M. Baird of Mediapolis, 69 year old retired farmer, who died Wednesday, March 30 (1960), at University Hospital in Iowa City. The Reverend J. O. Edgar was in charge of final rites and burial was in Sharon cemetery. Baird was born August 15, 1890, in Des Moines county. He was the son of James and Mary Ann Walkinshaw Baird. On February 9, 1916, he was married to Ola Harris and until their retirement in 1952 they lived on a farm northeast of Morning Sun. For the past seven years they have lived in Mediapolis. Surviving are the wife and three daughters: Mrs. Leora Jackson, Macomb, Illinois; Mrs. Evelyn Bohronson, Keota; and Mrs. Marion Marshall of Ocean Springs, Mississippi. | 852 | Shirley Eileen Nyberg passed away on May 2, 2015 in Lincoln at the age of 88. Shirley grew up in Burlington, Iowa and graduated from Burlington High School in 1945. She earned a degree in nursing and worked as a registered nurse and administrator at the Burlington Hospital for more than 25 years. In 1951, Shirley married Harold Nyberg. Later, she moved with her family to Walton. Faith and family were important to Shirley who cared for others her entire life. Living in the Lincoln area for the last 20 years she provided in-home care for the elderly. | 853 | Slater Mrs. Hester Isabel Slater, wife of Edward Slater, 1017 Gaines street, Davenport, died at 8 a.m. today at the family home, following a short illness. She was born on July 8, 1905 in Carman, Ill., where she received her education. On Aug. 16, 1923, she was married to Edward Slater of Burlington. The couple resided there for several years, coming to Davenport in 1925, where they had since resided. Mrs. Slate was a member of the Church of Christ. Surviving are her husband; one son, Richard at home; one daughter, Doris at home; her father, Albert Graham of Burlington; eight sisters, Mrs. John Jackson, Mrs. C.O. DeHauge and Mrs. Ed Wills of Burlington; Mrs. Ray Chestnut of Weaver, Ia., Mrs. William Hammer of Ft. Madison, Ia., Mrs. Harry Dowell of Carman, Ill., Mrs. W.A. Baker of Belle Plaine, Ia., and Mrs. Judith Carman of Fairfield, Ia., and three brothers, Ben Graham of Waterloo., Ia., James of Vetal, N.D., and Phillip of Carman, Ill. The body was taken to the Hill & Fredericks mortuary and will be sent to Burlington, either Friday or Saturday for funeral services and burial there. The Daily Times, Davenport, Iowa. | 854 | Soldier buried at Latty. 600 attend services for Private H. O. Wunnenberg. Six hundred people attended the funeral of Private Herbert O. Wunnenberg, held at the Lutheran church at Latty Sunday morning at 10.30 o’clock, to do honor to the memory of the Latty soldier who was killed in France. Thirty troopers from the Burlington cavalry, Mediapolis American Legion men and others filled the church. The cavalry men left Burlington at 9 o’clock in the morning for the services.
