Notes - Blame Dense Fog in Fatal Crash
Mediapolis – Dense fog was blamed for a 2-truck collision in which a Mediapolis farmer died. The accident happened on Hwy.61 approximately 1 1/2 miles north of Mediapolis Wednesday.
Dead is Herbert Floyd Edmonds, 61, a bachelor. Edmonds died instantly when a pickup he was driving was struck broadside by a star Route mail truck enroute to Cedar Rapids. The accident occurred at 1 a.m. as Edmonds pulled onto the highway from a gravel road.
Driver of the mail truck was Paul Johnson 53, of Burlington rural. Johnson told Deputy Sheriff Carl Anderson he was driving north at less than 40 miles per hour when he saw the pickup pull from the side road.
