- Pioneer of City Passes
Fred Ruppert, 86, Dies At Home Monday Afternoon.
Mr. Fred Ruppert, 86, resident of Iowa City almost his entire life, passed away at his home Monday afternoon at 12:45 o’clock. He had been in ill health for several years, and had been bedfast for the last two weeks.
He was born in Whittenberg, Germany, September 27, 1844, and came to this country with his parents when he was four years old. He lived in Philadelphia, Pa., for about three years, coming to Iowa City with his parents when he was seven years old.
He was married to Miss Augusta Strub, of Iowa City on September 15th, 62 years ago last September. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran church for more than 70 years.
He is survived by his widow, who resides at 421 East Davenport street, three daughters, Mrs. Charles Toms of Iowa City, Mrs. William Welse, of Spirit Lake, and Mrs. C.F. Wunnenberg, of Morning Sun, and two sons, Fred Ruppert of Casey, and Joseph Ruppert, of Huron, S.D., one brother, George Ruppert of Iowa City, 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been made. The remains are at the Oathout funeral home.
