Donald J. Waddell, 61, a former longtime resident of the Marion and Springville area, died Wednesday in Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Knoxville. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Murdoch Chapel, Marion, with Masonic services by Marion Lodge No. 6 AF & AM. Inurnment: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the chapel.
The Rev. Clair Odell will officiate.
Born the son of Joseph and Stella Thompson Waddell Nov. 10, 1928, in Oakville, he married Doris Nyberg there on Jan. 7, 1949. Mr. Waddell served with the Navy during World War II and was a former Linn County deputy sheriff. He owned and operated Waddell's Welding and Repair in Springville. He worked at Katz Salvage and Marion Iron until his health forced him to retire in September 1987. Mr. Waddell was a member of Marion Lodge No. 6 AF & AM, Cedar Rapids Consistory and El Kahir Shrine.
Surviving are his wife, Doris Waddell, and a daughter [private], two sons, Steven and [private], six grandchildren; a brother, Jack, Wappello; and three sisters, Margaret Anderson, Kathryn Carr and Mary Hodson, all of Hawardsen.
Memorials may be made to Scottish Rite.
