- Early Pioneer of Louisa County Dies
Wapello, Ia., Jan. 31. – Mrs. Wilhelmina Bettemiller Wehmeyer, aged 91 years, died Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lena Owens, near Columbus Junction.
When 5 years of age she came to American from Germany with her parents, three sisters and two brothers. After landing in New York they made the trip to St. Louis, and frm there to Warrentown, mo., where she obtained a grammar school education. She was united in marriage to August Wehmeyer in 1853 and after one year came to Louisa county, making the trip by boat from St. Louis to Port Louisa.
Thirteen children were born to them, eight of whom survive. They are John of La Ferria, Tex.; Daniel of Conesville; Mrs. Amelia Winmeyer of Naper, Neb.; Mrs. Lena Owens of near Columbus Junction; Mrs. Kate Brauns, Mrs. Eliza Weber, Mrs. Emma Otto, Mrs. Christina Schmeiser of Wapello.
Funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 3 o’clock, from the Grace M.E. church, conducted by the Rev. G.E. Heidle, with interment at Wapello cemetery.
