- Alfred Mearl Melson
Mr. Alfred Mearl Melson, 87, died at McAllen Medical Center on Monday after a brief illness.
Born in Cedar County, Iowa, he had moved from Edinburg to San Juan in 1962 and during his life worked as a farmer. He attended the San Juan Methodist Church, was a member of San Juan Masonic Lodge #1173 A.F.&A.M., and a Master Mason for 64 years.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Vera Melson of San Juan, one son, Mr. Joe Melson, of San Juan, one grandson, Mr. Alfred Melson of Antioch, Calif., one granddaughter, Mrs. Sharon Grinke, of Jonestown, Texas; one great granddaughter, Bonnie Grinke of Jonestown, Texas, and three sisters, Mrs. Frances Blakesley of Elkhorn, Wis., and Mrs. Maude Naber and Mrs. Blanche Christensen both of Tipton, Iowa.
Mr. Melson will lie in state at Kreidler Funeral Home on N. 10th St. in McAllen until 9 p.m. today. Funeral services will be conducted at Kreidler Memorial Chapel on N. Taylor Road at 2 p.m. on Thursday with Rev. Harold Onweiler of the San Juan and Pharr United Methodist Churches officiating. Burial will follow at valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Members of San Juan Masonic Lodge #1173 will serves as pallbearers and officiate at the graveside following the ministers’ committal service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the San Juan United Methodist Church.
