    Dennis P. "Iceman" Eis, age 70 of Defiance, passed away on Friday, August 6, 2021 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

    He was born on May 29, 1951 to Paul and Alverna (Schafer) Eis in Defiance, Ohio. Dennis was a 1969 graduate of Tinora High School. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army from 1971-1973. On May 29, 1991 he married Yevonnia (Donley) "Rosie" Eis, who survives.

    Dennis worked for Mid City Products in Sherwood, Ohio for 15 years until his retirement in 2004. He loved the outdoors and riding his motorcycle. He enjoyed fishing, swap meets, garage sales, and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

    Dennis will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Yevonnia Eis of Defiance, his daughters, Danielle Mobely of Alabama, and Tina (Josh) Collins of Paulding, OH, and his son, Tim Rhoads of Napoleon, OH. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, his sisters, Lois (Larry) Hill of Defiance, Pastor Janet (Herb) Strickland of Bryan, OH, and Sandra (Russ) Harges of Ft. Wayne, IN, and his brother, Ronald "Rock" (Julie) Eis of Defiance.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Richard Rhoads, and two sisters, Linda Kay Eis and Karen Lynn Souza.

    Visitation will be held from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at Restoration Tabernacle, 9119 Christy Road, Defiance. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, August 13, 2021 at the church, with Pastor Burnell Hammons officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverview Memory Gardens, with graveside military rites accorded by VFW #3360.

    Schaffer Funeral Home was honored to assist the family with arrangements.

    He was born on May 10, 1929 to Lester and Mildred (McFetters) Eis in Defiance, Ohio. On June 11, 1949 he married Alverna (Schaffer) Eis, who resides in Defiance.

    Paul was a member of Restoration Tabernacle Church in Defiance. He worked at S & K Tool in Defiance for 49 years. Paul loved his church, his Ford, the Cleveland Indians, and all his coats and hats. He enjoyed coon hunting, fishing, knives and guns, dog trading, flea markets, and playing euchre.

    Paul will be sadly missed by his family; wife Alverna Eis of Defiance, children Dennis (Rose) Eis of Defiance, Lois (Larry) Hill of Defiance, Pastor Janet (Pastor Herb) Strickland of Bryan, Rock (Julie) Eis of Defiance, and Sandra (Russ) Harges of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and sister, Marie (Rev. Burnell) Hammons of Defiance.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and Lester Eis, daughters, Linda Kay Eis and Karen Lynn Souza, and brothers, Don and Robert Eis.

    Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, February 22, 2016 at Restoration Tabernacle Church in Defiance, with Rev. Herb Strickland officiating. Burial will follow at Evansport Cemetery.

    She was born on September 23, 1931 to the late Louis and Viola (Garber) Schafer in Unionville, Michigan. On June 11, 1949 she married Paul L. Eis, who preceded her in death on February 18, 2016.

    Alverna was a faithful member of Restoration Tabernacle Church. She was an Licensed Practical Nurse and worked at the Defiance County Home. Her greatest love was her family, and she enjoyed her time as a homemaker. She was a very active mother, and her faith and devotion to her family was an inspiration.

    Alverna is survived by her two sons, Dennis (Rose) Eis and Rock (Julie) Eis, all of Defiance, and three daughters, Lois (Larry) Hill of Defiance, Pastors Janet (Herb) Strickland of Bryan, and Sandra (Russ) Harges of Fort Wayne, IN. She also leaves behind 21 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and two sisters, Donelda "Pinky" Roggenkemper of Defiance, and Lila Mae "Susie" Layman of Lindale, GA.

    In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughters, Linda Kay Eis and Karen Souza, three brothers, Vincent, Ronald, and Donald Schafer, and her sister, Glenola Blanton.

    Visitation will be held from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at Restoration Tabernacle Church. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 10, 2020 at the church, with Pastor H.G. Strickland officiating. Burial will follow the service at Evansport Cemetery.

    He was born on Aug. 17, 1891 in North Creek, a son of Henry Philip and Martha (Weller) Schafer.
    On Aug. 26, 1913, he married Viola Garver in Continental.
    He is survived by his wife, Viola; three sons, Vincent, 619 Moss St., Ronald, rt.2, Defiance, and Donald, 886 Webster St.,; four daughters, Mrs. James (Donelda) French, Bell Flower, Calif., Mrs. Kenneth (Glenola) Hancock, rt.1, Defiance, and Mrs. Paul (Alvina) Eis and Mrs. Paul (Lila) Layman, both of rt.2, Defiance; 32 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Ralph, Ayersville, and three sisters, Mrs. Ralph (Eva) Stuber, Fort Wayne, Mrs. Lewis (Mattie) Schellenberger, Genera, Ohio, and Mrs. Thomas (Viola) Wagner, Continental.

    Mrs. Viola M. (Schafer) Mansfield, 90, formerly of Route 2, Defiance, died at 2:20 a.m. Sunday in Medical College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo, where she had been a patient for the past month. She had been a resident at the Defiance County Home for several years.
    She was born in Payne on Feb. 24, 1893, the daughter of John and Cora (Kuhl) Garver. In 1912 she married Louis Schafer, who died in 1963. She married Harry Mansfield in 1966, who preceded her in death.
    Mrs. Mansfield lived in Defiance County since 1941.
    Surviving are three sons, Vincent Schafer, Fort Myers, Fla., Ronald Schafer, Route 2, and Donald Schafer, Route 8; three daughters, Mrs. J.A.(Donelda) Roggenkemper, 420 W. High St., Mrs. Paul (Alverna) Eis, Route 2, and Mrs. Paul (Lila Mae) Layman, Fort Myers; 35 grandchildren; 73 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
    Also preceding her in death were a daughter, Glenola Blanton; two granddaughters, Linda Eis and Beverly Hancock; a great-granddaughter, Dawn Schafer; and a brother, Lester.
    Services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Faith Tabernacle. The Rev. Herbert Strickland will officiate. Burial will be in Brunersburg Cemetery.
    Friends may call at Mast and Mock Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, and at the church one hour prior to services.
