Having lived quite a life, he was an avid pilot like his father, a crop duster for 30 years and he and his wife owned Charley Bills Country Western Café for 22 years. - Pilot “fair” following crash
A pilot was in fair condition Tuesday from injuries he sustained when his crop-dusting plane crashed in Putnam County.
Charles W. Hiltner, 57, of Continental was in Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton recovering from burns over most of his body and other injuries.
Hiltner told authorities he was flying his single-engine plane over his fields around 8 p.m. Monday when the craft lost fuel pressure and the engine quite, said a spokeswoman for the Lima Post of Ohio Highway Patrol.
The plane crashed in trees and a ditch and caught fire, the spokeswoman said. The crash was near Ohio 114 near the village of Kalida. Hiltner was the only person aboard.
