      Mrs. Mary Jane Surfis Passes Away at Age 48

      Died, at her home on Quincy street, March 4, 1894, at 1:20 a. m., Mary Jane Surfis, wife of John W. Surfis, age 48 years, 2 months and 10 days.

      She was born in St. Louis, Mo., December 25, 1845, and was married to John W. Surfis on May 3, 1860, and removed to Topeka that same year, where she has lived ever since. She was the youngest daughter of John and Mary Ragland. She was the mother of two daughters who died in early childhood. She was a member of the First Baptist church.

      Mrs. Surfis was a remarkably good business woman, an estimable neighbor and a kind, true and loving wife. Her funeral occurs at 2 o'clock p. m. tomorrow at her late home, 313 Quincy street. Friends are invited.
