- Wayne J. Johnston, 88, of North Creek died 12:10 a.m. Thursday, January 6, 2011 at his residence following a long battle with cancer. He was born February 19, 1922 in North Creek to the late Cash and Rachel (Shoemaker) Johnston. On April 27, 1941 he married Lenore Schafer, who survives in North Creek.
Also surviving are his two daughters: Mary Jane (Don) Irvin of Elida and Carole Ann (Jim) Zachrich of North Creek; four grandsons: Jeff (Karen) Irvin of Holland, MI, Jerry (Toni) Irvin of Marion, OH, Bob (Betty Jo) Zachrich of London, OH, and Mike (Tiffany) Zachrich of Continental, OH; and ten great-grandchildren: Jason, Sam, Caleb and Elizabeth Irvin of Holland, MI, Ashley and Hollie Irvin of Marion, OH, Brenda and Emily Zachrich of London, OH, and Sloane and Jade Zachrich of Continental, OH.
Wayne was a retired farmer and also operated the feed mill at the North Creek Farmers Elevator. He was a 1940 graduate of Miller City High School and was a WWII Navy veteran. He attended the North Creek United Methodist Church, North Creek, where he served on many different committees. He also taught the adult Sunday school class.
Wayne was a 60-year member of the Continental Masonic Lodge #570 and was a Past Patron of the Continental Eastern Stars #129. He enjoyed all kinds of sports, but hunting and fishing was his passion. He enjoyed nothing more that having his family all together, and was very interested in everything they were doing.
The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 8, 2011 at the North Creek United Methodist Church, North Creek with Pastor Chuck Eagle officiating. Burial will follow in Monroe Cemetery, Continental with Military Rites by the
Continental American Legion. Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental and for one hour prior to the service at church on Saturday. There will be a Masonic Service 7:30 pm Friday at the Funeral Home. [1, 2]
