Henry and Margaret Morris settled on Section Three, Town Two, South Range, Seven East, in October 1832, in Putnam County, Ohio. They lived on the farm and farmed and Father preached the gospel of Jesus Christ until his death. They raised ten children. They were the first settlers in that neighborhood. Their nearest neighbor was [sic] S. S. and J. J. Clevenger, three miles west of them. Judge Henry Morris, a native of Kentucky, came to Clark County, Ohio with his parents in 1812, when but six years of age.
In the fall of 1832 he came to the farm on which his widow now lives, and where he died in 1877. It was then Putnam County, and in 1833 he was made the first associate judge of the Territory, which he held three years, and then resigned to attend to home duties. He was a leader in the affairs of the community, as well as in religious matters, being a teacher for over thirty years of the doctrine of predestination. His parents were Joseph M. and Lovina (Drake) Morris, who died in Clark County, Ohio. He was married August 30, 1832 to Margaret Weaver, born May 11, 1812, in Clark County, Ohio, daughter of George and Elizabeth (Hempleman) Weaver, natives of Virginia, but very early settlers of Clark County. The children born to this union were George, living in Monroe township, this county; Mrs. Elizabeth Hartman, residing in Monroe Township, this county; Mrs. Lovina Holcomb (deceased, leaving one son, Henry M., who is now residing in Russell County, Kansas); Joseph, a physician in Columbus Grove, Putnam County, Ohio; Mrs. Sarah Crables [sic] (deceased, leaving a son, Henry M., in Russell County, Kansas, and a daughter, Mrs. Bogard [sic] in Putnam County, Ohio); Mrs. Mary Schaeffer, residing in Putnam County, Ohio; John, residing in Russell County, Kansas; Mrs. Ellen [sic] Schlosser [sic] and Mrs. Catherine Schlosser [sic].

From History of Allen County, Ohio. 1885.
Father H. Morris was a consistent members of the Old School Baptist Church and a fervent Democrat."

From data collected by William H. Morris. Dated 12-14-1966
Henry Morris followed farming but like his father, he was a minister of the gospel, in the Baptist faith, being recorded as one of the pioneer ministers in the history of Putnam County. His teacher was his father, Joseph Morris. It says he was ordained in a Baptist Church about fifty miles south of his home, in Oldtown [Chillicothe], in the same church where he and Margaret met.

    Obituary from findagrave
    DIED
At his residence, three miles west of Columbus Grove, Monday morning, January 8th, 1877, of paralysis of the heart, Henry Morris, aged 70 years, 8 months and 84 days.
One by one the old pioneers of the country are dropping into the grave, and but a little while and the tales of the early days will only be told by those who have heard them from the lips of those who have passed to their reward.
Henry Morris, better known throughout the country as "Judge" Morris, was born in Kentucky in 1806, and came to Clark county, this State, when only 4 years old. He remained in Clark county until 26 years of age, at which age he was married, and then moved to Putnam county, settling on the farm from which he will to-day be carried to the grave. This county was organized in 18[??], Mr. Morris settled here in 18[??], and in consequence of both labor and length of residence is entitled to be ranked as one of our pioneers. He was a constant Christian, a good neighbor, and leaves behind him a family of 8 children and his aged companion.
It is superfluous for us to undertake a eulogy of the virtues of the Judge before a community in which he has been so long established, but we can hardly refrain from saying that if the position occupied by the children of the Judge does not speak volumns in favor of their home training, then we have made a serious mistake in our conception of the result of home influence.
For the incidents of his death we are under obligations to Dr. Joseph Morris, a son, and one of our oldest practicing physician. He was called to his father the Sunday evening before death, his father complaining of sharp pains shooting across his breast and down his arms. The Doctor found the pulse at 60 per minute full and strong, and his condition very nearly normal. After a thorough diagnosis of the case he pronounced it Neuralgia, and leaving his directions returned to town.
Monday morning the Judge got up, dressed himself, and sat at the breakfast table with the family as usual, though still suffering considerably from the Neuralgia. After breakfast he asked Mrs. Morris to bring in some wood for the fire-place, and then laid down on the lounge in the sitting-room. Mrs. Morris brought in one load, and, in passing, asked him how he felt, to which he replied, "about the same." It was only a few steps to the wood house and perhaps not a half moment elapsed between the time of asking the question and the return of the lady with the second load of wood, but in that half moment the dark angel had come and gone and Henry Morris had passed out of the darkness into the light.
Doctor Morris tells us there were no dangerous symptoms at the time of the diagnosis the evening before, and the actions of Mr. Morris would indicate nothing serious, and expressed his opinion that the cause of death was the Neuralgia striking the heart producing paralysis of that organ.

George Morris, 93, succumbs to illness at farm home in Allen-co
Columbus Grove, Oct. 17 – (Special) – George Morris, retired farmer, of Monroe-tp, died at his home Sunday morning, following an illness of general debility. Had he lived until Thursday, he would have reached the age of 84 years. He lived his life-time in the some district, three miles southwest of Columbus Grove, where he was born in 1833.
Up to a few years ago, across the road, less than 60 rods away, lived Mrs. Elizabeth Hartman, who was 90 years of age at the time she died. She too was born in the same district in which she lived.
Morris and Mrs. Hartman were children of Judge Henry Morris, one of Allen-co’s first white settlers. The first white settler had arrived in Lima just two years before George Morris was born. A year before the Shawnees started their westward trek and Allen co was cleared of Indians.
Mrs. Hartman was not quite 30 when she was married and for 70 years she and her brother lived on adjoining farms. Altho the district is southwest of Columbus Grove, the farm lands lie in the Monroe-tp, Allen-co.
Morris saw the dense forests of northern Allen-co developed into fertile fields of the farming community.
He is survived by five children, Mrs. Maggie Morris Trumbo, of Columbus Grove; John B. Morris of Rushville, Ind., the Misses Anna and Catherine Morris and George Morris, Jr., residing at the family home. His wife died many years ago.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the country residence.
Interment will be in Truro cemetery, just south of his home.

Source History of Putnam County, Ohio H.H. Hardesty & Co., Chicago and Toledo 1880.

Alfred Morris, our subject, was born in Allen county, Ohio, October 1, 1862, He lived upon the home farm until he had attained the age of sixteen years, and received a good education in the schools of Columbus Grove, Before he had reached his majority his father engaged in contracting and building macadamized roads, making our subject his foreman and superintendent, in which position he developed an excellent business capacity and a general knowledge of affairs. Afterward, our subject entered a machine shop at Lima as an apprentice, but after six months it became apparent that his health would not permit of such occupation. He now engaged in the saw-mill business at Randolph, Mo., for one year, then in the ice business at Columbus Grove for one year. After this he purchased a farm and lived thereon for four years, and after this engaged in the saw-mill business at Rimer, Ohio, for a similar length of time. In 1892 he came to Continental, where he has since done an extensive business. His plant is valued at $3,300, and besides, he owns various pieces of village property. Connected with his business is the Nickle Plate stock yard, which he controls and operates, and he also deals extensively in coal. He has made the major portion of his possessions himself by energetic and honorable business methods. In politics he is a republican, and has held the office of city clerk, and is a member of the school board. He has officiated as superintendent of the Sabbath-school, is at present a teacher, and has aided most liberally in the erection of the United Brethren church at Continental, of which society he and his wife are members, as also they are of the Good Templars' lodge.

He was united in marriage, January 1, 1884, to Miss Maggie A. Billheimer, who was born in Putnam county, she being the daughter of Joseph and Loraine (Beardsley) Billheimer, who were early pioneers of the county and who lived to become leading agriculturists of the section. Mr. Billheimer was a strong republican, and both were prominent members of the United Brethren church. Four children have been born to our subject and his wife, they being, in order of birth, Joseph, Clarence A., Glaydus, and Homer. They form a happy circle and take great comfort in their home.

    Pomona Man’s Disappearance Mystery Here
The mysterious disappearance of Robert D. Morris, 843 Boston Place, whose wife is well known socially here, and the subsequent finding of his automobile near Balboa a few days ago – is being investigated at the present time by Pomona officers, it was learned today. Morris was at firsts believed to have committed suicide, his car being found near the beach, but later disclosures have caused the suicide theory to be abandoned.
Morris has been missing for several days, but the matter has been kept secret by local officers, who declined to discuss the case freely today, when questioned.
Morris was a carpenter by trade, and was not nearly so well known here as his wife, who has always gone by the name of Mrs. Orpha Morris. She is chairman of the Woman’s Department of the Christian church and also child welfare chairman of the Pomona Ebell club. Thursday night, she was elected a director of the local Welfare League.

    Morris’ Fate Still Mystery
The fate of Robert D. Morris, 843 Boston Place, who disappeared from his home here early last week and whose automobile was later found abandoned near Balboa, was still an unsolved mystery here today.
Neither Constable Alex R. Chambers nor the local police department had been able to obtain any further trace of him, and Constable Chambers today expressed the opinion that he had possibly committed suicide, as his car abandoned on the beach at Balboa indicated.
Morris is said to have disappeared for short periods before, returning home after being away for a few days. When he disappeared last week, he was at first believed to have gone away as in the past just for a short time, but when his automobile was found at Balboa a search was begun.
He is not known to have any reason for disappearing and was not in trouble. However, according to person intimate with him, he had acted queerly for some time. He was a contractor here – in business for himself.
Mrs. Orpha Morris, his wife, is prominent socially here, holding important offices with various local social organizations.
The disappearance of Mr. Morris had been kept secret by officers until the news was published in The Progress on Saturday.

Was R.D. Morris Murdered or Did He Kill Himself?
Mystery Surrounds Discovery of Body Off Newport Today
The finding of the body of Robert D. Morris, 45, contractor, 843 Boston Place, floating at sea three miles off the coast of Newport Beach at 6:30 this morning by three fishermen, solved the mystery of his disappearance from his home here a week ago last Saturday, but has brought to the attention of officers a new mystery – was he killed or did he commit suicide? For the body is not badly bloated, as would be the case if death were due to drowning, and marks on the body indicate that he was likely dead before his body was thrown in the water.
Morris left home here last Saturday Morning after having complained of a headache, according to his widow, Mrs. Orpha Morris, who is well known socially here. At 11 o’clock the same morning she received a telephone call from him. He told her that he was going to Covina on business, she said. Early last week Morris’ automobile was found abandoned on the beach at Balboa.
Constable Alex B. Chambers was informed of his disappearance by Mrs. Morris, but the local police were not notified. His disappearance was kept secret until last Saturday, when news of it was published in The Progress.
    Widow Shocked
Mrs. Morris had requested the constable to keep the matter secret, as Mr. Morris had left home for short times before and always returned.
She was greatly shocked when informed by the Chief of Police this morning of the finding of her husband’s body, and became almost hysterical. Noland Morris, nephew of the man whose body was found, was at once notified and left for Santa Ana, where the inquest will be held at the undertaking parlors of Jones and Tuttle this afternoon at 1:30.
Announcement of the finding of Morris’ body was received by Chief of Police Lyter this morning by long distance telephone from J.A. Porter, city marshal of Newport Beach. According to the Newport Beach officer, the body was found three miles off the coast of Newport this morning at 6:30 by three fisherman. Identification was effected by means of papers found in the pockets of the dead man.
The body was taken from Newport Beach to Santa Ana. The city official of Newport Beach, who telephoned Chief of Police Lyter seemed to believe that it was possibly a case of suicide, but later word from Santa Ana was to the effect that death might have occurred before the body was thrown into water, judging from the condition of the body.
    Motive Unknown
No Motive for Morris committing suicide was advanced this morning by relatives. He was believed to be in fairly good health and in fair financial standing. On the morning that he left, Mrs. Morris said he complained of a headache, but she said he had dressed hurriedly and had not acted as if ill.
Noland Morris, his nephew, said this morning that he could assign no reason for his uncle committing suicide. “He is the last man in the world, I would have thought of doing such a thing,” he said.
Morris was a contractor and carpenter here and was not known to have any enemies, who would have motive for killing him.
“You do not think that it is anything that I have done that has caused him to do it?” Mrs. Morris asked Chief of Police this morning as she wept. She said there had been no domestic trouble. Mrs. Morris is well known socially here, holding important offices with various local organizations. She is the chairman of the civic and social division of the Women’s Department of the Christian church and child welfare chairman of the Pomona Ebell club. Just last week she was elected a director of the Pomona Welfare League for the coming year.
Mr. and Mrs. Morris have been residing here for a number of years. They had lived here for some time previous to 1914, when they went East. About three years ago, they returned to Pomona and have for some time past been residing on Boston Place.
Beside a widow, Mr. Morris is survived by two sons, Robert and Howard. Robert is 15 and attends Garey Junior High school. Howard is a few years younger and is a student at San Antonio school. Mr. Morris was a native of Ohio. He was about 46 years of age.
Addition particulars were received by Chief of Police Lyter shortly before noon from Santa Ana police. The Santa Ana department said that Morris had been identified by papers and cards found in his pockets. He had quite a number of papers in his pockets but no money. His watch was also missing, although the watch chain was found fastened to his clothing.
No marks were found on the body the Santa Ana police stated, and it is their belief that Morris committed suicide. Santa Ana officers requested that relative of the deceased attend the inquest at Santa Ana this afternoon.
It was learned today that Morris had at one time been away from home for almost two years. But as far as was known here, he and his wife had resumed living together on former terms upon his return. She, however, has always been known here a Mrs. Orpha Morris.
