    • Charles Alvin Harbaugh, 2142, Washington, DC. [son of Thomas Jefferson Harbaugh and Anna Scott] He was born in 1871 in Findley, Ohio. He was a pen artist, photographer and clerk for 40 years in the Treasury and Survey Departments in Washington, D.C.. He received his first appointment from President McKinley in the 1890's. He was one of the first three men in the Bureau of Standards, then a part of the Coast and Geodetic Surveys. He was later in the Life Saving Service, subsequently part of the U.S. Coast Guard, where he worked up all the official, annual reports and made official photographs of ship wrecks, some of which were published in the National Geographic in June of 1918. He left to become assistant to Charles Dawes in the U.S. Bureau of Budget. He retired to a small farm just outside of Washington, D.C. . He was the first Washington columnist under the title of Uncle Mike. Married Nov 10, 1896, in Putnam Co., Ohio, Elizabeth Morris, born July 20, 1979 at Columbus Grove, Ohio to Joseph Morris, M.D. and Diana Seitz. She reported that all the children were born in Washington. She lives at Hyattsville, Md.; they had seven children. (Harbaugh History, page 69)
