- Charles Douglas Harper, 78, North Manchester passed away February 20, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. On October 31, 1941, Charles was born in Lafayette, Kentucky to Jack and Mary (Walker) Harper.
Charles loved golfing at Sycamore Golf Course, dining out, he was an avid gun collector and loved keeping his lawn perfectly manicured. He most recently volunteered his time mowing at Timbercrest where he resided. Charles was always happy when he was spending time with his children and grandchildren. On April 15, 1961, Charles married Sandra Sue Freeman. He and Sandy had a heart for children and over the years opened their home to many foster children. Sandy passed away on August 13, 2015 after 54 years of marriage.
The memory of Charles Harper will be forever remembered by his sons, Mitchell (Tracy) Harper, Columbia City, Indiana, Christopher Harper, Plymouth, Aaron (Leslie Shewman) Harper, Akron, Indiana; his daughter, Sarah (Kim) Carpenter, Wabash, Indiana; one brother, William (Trish) Harper, South Bend, Indiana; one sister, Cheryl (Richard) Conroy, The Villages, Florida; seven grandchildren, Blake (Emily) Harper, Colton Harper, Kailen (Haylee Bidwell) Carpenter, Kamden Carpenter, Konner Carpenter, Jaxon Harper, Emerson Harper; and one great-grandchild, Kynnley Carpenter. Charlie was also survived by his special friend, Jan Butcher, North Manchester. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one great-grandchild, Caden Henry Harper.
