    Philip Kreider, (was) a prominent farmer and merchant. He was born in Lebanon county, Penn., in 1803, and died in January, 1842. In December, 1828, he married Leah Bowman, who was born in Cornwall township, Lebanon county, January 3, 1803, and died April 4, 1856.
    Eight children were born to them: Melinda Ann, widow of George W. Stover, of Penn township; William S., who died in 1855, aged twenty-three; Rozanna, who died in infancy; John Philip, who died leaving a family in Miles township; George, deceased in infancy; Reuben H., who died young; J. B. Kreider, M.D., practicing medicine in Bucyrus, Ohio; and Mary C. (Mrs. Weaver).

    "...In 1848 Mr. Stover was married in Haines Township, by Rev. Mr. Reese, a Lutheran minister, to Miss Malinda A. Kreider, who was born September 13, 1829, in Lebanon, Penn., where her grandfather, Jacob Kreider, was a well-known citizen in his day. He and his wife, Catherine (Smith), reared a family of five children - two sons and three daughters - Philip, Mrs. Stover's father, being the eldest. The other son, Jacob, died in 1811.
    Philip Kreider married Leah Bowman, and in April, 1834, removed with his family to the present site of Centre Hall, traveling in a wagon, the journey from Lebanon County requiring three days. He and Christian Hoffer, who with his family made the trip at the same time, purchased what was then known as the James Lyons farm, and divided it, Mr. Kreider taking the lower portion where Centre Hall now stands. Four years later he moved to Linden Hall, and after one year there located in what is now Penn Township, Centre County. He was a carpenter in his younger days, later becoming a merchant and hotel keeper, his thrifty and industrious life enabling him to secure a comfortable competence.
    He and his wife were devout members of the Reformed Church, and were highly esteemed in the community. The wife died April 4, 1836, the husband on January 7, 1842, and the remains of both were laid to rest at Aaronsburg. Their children were Malinda A. (Mrs. Stover); William S., who died in 1855 in Penn Township, Centre County; Rosanna, who died in infancy; John P., who died in Miles Township, Centre County, at the age of forty-four; George B. and Reuben H., who died in infancy; Jacob B., a physician at Bucyrus, Ohio, and Mary C., now Mrs. Daniel Weaver, of Miles township, Centre County."

    ...Philip Kreider, a prominent farmer and merchant...was born in Lebanon County, Penn., in 1803, and died in January, 1842. In December, 1828, he married Leah Bowman, who was born in Cornwall Township, Lebanon County, January 3, 1803, and died April 4, 1856. Eight children were born to them: Melinda Ann, widow of George W. The father was fairly well-educated for his day and opportunities, and was reared as a farm boy by an uncle, John Boumberger, he being a mere lad when his father died. As he grew to maturity he proved a good business man, and for several years he carried on a store, also kept a hotel in Lebanon. In addition to this he learned the carpenter's trade, and worked at same for a time. In 1835 he located at Centre Hall, and four years later moved to Penn Township, where he died. In religious faith he was a member of the Reformed Church, and in politics he was a Democrat.

    In the name of God Amen I Jacob Kreider of Lebanon Township in the county of Lebanon and state of Pennsylvania yeoman being at present very sick and weak in body but of sound mind memory and understanding blessed be God for the same but considering the uncertainty of this transitory life do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following to wit:

    Principally and first of all, I commend my immortal soul into the hands of God who gave it and by body to the earth to be burried in a decent and Christian like manner, at the discretion of my executors hereinafter named; and as to such worldly estates wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give and dispose of the same in the following manner to wit.

    First of all I order and direct my executors hereinafter named shall settle off my debts as soon as conveniently can be done after my decease. Item further I order my executors hereafter named to sell my plantation and land whereon I now live in Lebanon Township in the County of Lebanon aforesaid containing one hundred and eight acres and the usual allowance with the appurtenances adjoining lands of Christian Bomberger, George Reinoehl, and Abraham Kreider. I further order my executors hereinafter named shall sell the said plantation and tract of land either by publick vendue or private sale as they think proper, for good and passable money gold or silver and Pennsylvania currency. And my other land situate in East Hanover Township Dauphin County shall likewise be sold by my executors hereafter named either by publick or private sale as they think proper adjoining lands of George Kleinfelder and Roth and others for money of the same coin as aforesaid. The above mentioned two tracts of land shall be sold one year after my death by my executors hereafter named.

    And I do hereby authorize and empower my executors hereafter named or any of them, and the survivor of them, to make and execute such deeds or conveyances for my said lands and real estates as will vest a fee simple estate unto the purchaser or purchasers thereof. And the money arising out of my real and personal estate and all my other money which I have and possess shall all be distributed among my children. Share and share alike. Named Jacob Kreider deceased has already received the sum of five hundred sixty five pounds thirteen shillings and three pence. And Christian Kreider has received already the sum of two hundred and fifty pounds.

And Elizabeth the wife of Christian Reist deceased has received the sum of sixty four pounds eleven shillings and nine pence. And John Kreider has already received the sum of two hundred eighty nine pounds one shilling and nine pence. And Anna the wife of Abraham Bomberger deceased has already received the sum of thirty seven pounds two shillings and one penny. And Cathy now the wife of Christian Reist has received already the sum of thirty two pounds six shillings and nine pence. And Joseph has received already the sum of thirty three pounds five shillings and eleven pence, they my children have received that of money and goods in my lifetime and it is my will that my children shall have share and share alike. And them in any of my children that has more away of my estate till rest shall be made even with them that has most away and so on until they are all made even share and share alike. And the children of my son Jacob Kreider deceased shall have and inherit their fathers what is coming unto him for his equal share with the rest of my other children. Share and share alike unto them equally when they attain the age of twenty one years to be paid unto them by my executors guardian. And the legacy or inheritance which was allowed unto my daughter Elizabeth deceased I bequeth unto my son in law Christian Reist his heirs and assigns and the legacy on inheritance which was allowed unto my daughter Anna deceased I bequeath unto my son in law Abraham Bomberger his heirs and assigns. And lastly I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my trusty friend John Yordi and Christian Bomberger executors of this my last will and testament; and do hereby revoke and make void all other wills and testaments heretofore made and ratify and confirm this and no other to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty sixth day of January in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and nineteen.
