Son of Martin Brungard and Catharine Wentz. John was married twice. First to Margaret Condo on May 10, 1820. They had two girls: Catharine Brungart and Sarah Brungart. They started their life together in Brush Valley and then settled in Sugar Valley, east of Loganton on a farm adjoining that of his brother, Martin. Later, on January 7, 1825, John married Elizabeth Hoy. From that marriage there were 10 children: Mary, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Abaline, Thomas M., Joseph, Charlotte, Precilla, Lydia Ellen, and Susan.
