Harold who appears professionally as H. Elmer Bierly was born to parents Joseph C. Bierly 1834-1901 and Judith (Meyer) 1835-1917. His father, Joseph, was a veteran of the US Civil War and a 1st cousin 1x removed to Harold's mother, Judith.

Judith's mother, was Hannah (Bierly) 1800-1892. Hannah was the niece of Joseph's father, Anthony Bierly Jr. 1779-1880.

Harold's parents wed in 1864 at Miles, Centre, Pennsylvania and had the following known children:

From New Jersey, a brother of James and William.
He served as an Ensign with the New Jersey Volunteers during the War. He arrived in New Brunswick, Fall 1783 aboard the ship "Duke of Richmond", and was granted a town lot at Parrstown in 1784. He settled in Kings County and died in Greenwich Parish, May 1830, aged 72.

Revolutionary War Veteran

Captain Johann "Michael" Motz was born August 4, 1745. The son of Johann Casper Motz and Mary Houston. He died September 7 1830. He moved from Berks County to Northumberland County near Middleburg now Union County, with brothers John and George. Michael served as Captain of the 3rd Battalion 8th Company, Col. Peter Hosterman, Northumberland County Militia in 1778.
