      Christina G. was born in Penn's Valley, Centre county, Pa., April 8, 1800; died at Oak Dale, Dauphin county, Pa., July 17, 1876. She was married to John Grinter, July 5, 1821. He was born October 11, 1797; died at Oak Dale, Pa., March 1, 1882. Both are buried in the cemetery at Berrysburg, Pa. Mr. Grinter was a farmer; the family lived at Oak Dale, Pa. They were members of the Berrysburg Reformed congregation. Christina was confirmed a member of that congregation at the age of eighteen years. After their marriage, the couple lived for a while in Penn's Valley, Centre county, Pa., thence moved to Oak Dale, Washington township, Dauphin county, Pa. Here he followed the vocation as iron worker for a number of years, then settled down to farming, having bought a farm of 72 acres, bordering on Wiconisco Creek.
      There were eleven children, two sons and nine daughters.
      I. Jacob was born February 16, 1822; married first to Elizabeth Wert; second, to a western lady. He is a blacksmith.

      II. Elizabeth was born in Penn's Valley, Centre county, Pa., Dec. 20, 1823; died at Gratz, Pa., in the spring of 1882. She was married to Cyrus Buffington, a farmer. After his decease, she was married to Samuel Umholtz, a farmer, who lived at Gratz, now deceased.
      Issue (Surname Buffington) two:
      1. Robert, single, lives at Gratz, Pa.
      2. Jane, single.
      Issue (Surname Umholtz) three:
      3. Adeline, married to Mr. Hess, Gratz, Pa.
      4. Henry had been married but a short time when he was accidentally killed in Bear Valley Mining Shaft by the fall of coal.
      5. William is married, a saddler by trade: lives at Gratz, Pa.
      III. Robert was born in Penn's Valley, Centre county, Pa., June 5, 1826. He died in Texas some time after the war. He had been married to a Yankee lady of Ohio. Robert spent part of his time in early life in travel, hence the cause of his marriage taking place in the State of Ohio. Some time after marriage the couple moved" to Texas, where Robert followed the vocation as tanner and currier. He was prospering, but one day he and a man whom he had under his employ had a real scold, when the man grasped a gun, shooting his employer in the arm . From this wound Robert expired after several months' suffering.
      IV. Matilda was born in Union county, Pa., Oct. 1, 1827; died May 26, 1893; buried at Loyalton, Dauphin county, Pa. She was married to Gabriel Boyer, farmer, now deceased. They were members of the Reformed Church.

      V. Lucy Ann was born in Perry county, Pa., February 20, 1830. She was married to Bennevel Kissinger, now deceased; members of the Reformed Church. Lucy Ann lives at Millersburg, Pa.
      Issue (Surname Kissinger) four:
      1. John W. was born April 6, 1854; lives at Millersburg, Pa.
      2. James M. lives at Millersburg, Pa.
      3. Mary Alice, deceased.
      4. Wilson lives at Kingston, Pa. He is a stone and marble cutter by occupation.
      VI. Harriet was born May 18, 1832; married to John T. Hoffman. They live at Millersburer, Pa.; members of the Reformed Church.
      Issue (Surname Hoffman, one:
      1. Sarah R. lives at Millersburg, Pa.
      VII. Frances B. was born Feb. S, 1834; married to Jacob Shope, M. D., June 3, 1856. He was born September 23, 1824; died at Mechanicsburg, Pa., September 18, 1877; members of the Church of God. Dr. Shope graduated at Philadelphia Medical College in 1857.
      The family lived some years at Valley View (Germantown), Schuylkill county, Pa., thence moved to Mechanicsburg, Pa. Dr. Shope was quite successful as a physician, and at his death left ample means for the support of his widow and children. Issue (Surname Shope) five:
      1. James Byerle, was born May 22, 1857; died July 29, 1858. He was named after two physicians.
      2. Bernard Reilly was born at Valley View, Pa., October 2, 1858; married to Elizabeth Earnest Fortenbaugh, Feb. 12, 1892. They reside at Mechanicsburg, Pa.; husband's occupation, cabinet maker.
      3. Victor Emanuel was born at Valley View, Pa., Sept. 24, 1860: married Lillie A. Soladay, March 18, 1886; reside at Wormleysburg, Cumberland county, Pa. He is a machinist.
      4. Sarah Jane was born at Valley View, Pa., Aug. 28, 1865; resides at Mechanicsburg; pipe organist.
      5. Clara Isabella was born at Valley View, Pa., Nov. 14, 1867 : resides at Mechanicsburg.
      VIII. John Thomas was born December 14, 1836; died May 28, 1839.
      IX. Annie Jane was born December 19, 1838; married to Josiah Boyer, brother to Gabriel Boyer, mentioned above, in 1858. Mr. Boyer is a farmer; lives at Loyalton, Pa.; members of the Reformed Church.
      Issue (Surname Boyer) three:
      1. D. A. was born May 22, 1860; married November 26, 1882; name of wife was not reported. By occupation Mr. Ginter is a merchant: resides at Tower City, Pa.
      2. Malinda A. was born September 13, 1863; married R. Lenker, a farmer; reside at Elizabethville, Pa.
      3. John C, physician, was born Sept. 2, 1874; resides at Loyalton. Pa.
      X. Ellen Amanda was born February 6, 1841; died July 27, 1842.
      XI. Sarah married Emanuel Klinger, farmer; reside at Atwood, Indiana. They are members of the Reformed Church.
