    • Robert Franklin Stevens 1921—2017
      Robert Franklin Stevens, 95, passed away peacefully February 5, 2017. Born April 9, 1921, near Paw Paw, IL to Ivy (Spoor) Stevens and Ray F. Stevens, the middle child of seven. He grew up in Shabbona, IL, served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 until 1946, graduated from the University of Illinois in 1949, with a BS in Accounting. He married Mary Edith Moyer on July 10, 1954, in Binghamton, NY and they returned to Rockford after their marriage. They adopted their son, Bruce in 1959, and daughter, Lisa in 1962. In 1963, they purchased the Shelby Motel in Shelbyville, KY and lived there until the family returned to Rockford in 1970. Bob managed the Alpine Inn and the Sweden House Lodge until his retirement in 1983. Bob continued to work part-time for Fridh Corporation for the next 23 years. He and Mary were active members at Westminster Presbyterian Church, joining in 1972. Bob was a member of the Rotary Club, both in Shelbyville and in Rockford for over 25 years. Bob is predeceased by parents, Ray and Ivy Stevens; wife, Mary Stevens; brothers, Millard, Russell and James Stevens; sister, Shirley McGinnis; and son, Bruce Stevens. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa (Gail) Colbert of Brighton, CO; sisters, Phyllis Stevens of Denver, CO and Betty Challand of Rockford, IL; granddaughters, Rhiannon (Ryan) Caufield, Francine Stevens and Melanie Stevens, all of the Milwaukee, WI area; 4 great-grandchildren, Haileah, Brittany, Reese and Rylen; as well as many nieces and nephews.
      Visitation from 10 to 11 a.m., and memorial service at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2821 N. Bell School Road, Rockford, IL 61107. Luncheon to follow the service, at the church. Both Bruce and Lisa were adopted through the assistance of the Goldie Floberg Children's home, so the family requests in lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Goldie Floberg Center, 58 W.
