    Obit in The Moville Mail, 5 October 1916, page 1: John F. Butters, a pioneer of Moville Township, died in the German Lutheran Hospital in Sioux City Thursday night, September 28, 1916. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the Westcott Chapel, Sioux City, conducted by Rev. E.H. Stevens of the First Baptist Church. Interment was in Graceland Park Cemetery, Sioux City, where Gen. Hancock Post G.A.R. conducted burial services. John Butters was born in Jackson County, Iowa, May 10, 1846. He enlisted in the Army at the age of 17 and served 3 years and 3 months. After being mustered out he returned to his father's farm in Jackson County. In 1869 he married Louisa C. Moyer. In the fall of 1880 with his wife and 5 children, Allie, Osce, Elsie, Stella and Anna, he came to Woodbury County and located on a farm eight miles southeast of Moville. In the spring of 1892 the family moved to Sioux City where he resided until his death. Mrs. Butters died March 30, 1900, and Mr. Butters was married to Mrs. Mary C. Heacock who died October 22, 1912. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Allie Bryan, Mrs. Elsie Faulkner and Mrs. Stella Hollman, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one sister and one brother.

    John married Louisa Cornelia Moyer in 1869. Louisa (daughter of Levi Moyer and Sophia Moyer) was born on 10 May 1846 in Franklin County, OH; died on 30 Mar 1900 in Sioux City, Woodbury County, IA; was buried in Graceland Park Cemetery, Sioux City, Woodbury County, IA.
