Also known as Old German Burial Ground (Defunct)

The Old Lutheran and Reformed cemetery, or Old German burial ground, was originally located at the corner of First and Center streets in Bloomsburg, Columbia County, Pennsylvania, adjoining St. Paul’s Lutheran Church which was organized in 1807 and later became St. Paul’s Union Church combining Lutheran and Reformed congregations. A deed dated July 21, 1925, indicates land was purchased from the Rosemont Cemetery Company. This was for re-interment of bodies from the old cemetery. On February 15, 1926, the church turned the land over to the Bloomsburg School District.

The last bodies were removed in March 1925. Most bodies were reinterred in a specific location at the New Rosemont cemetery in Espy, Pa. In some cases relatives provided for burial in other cemeteries. Dr. S. B. Arment, the state health representative, stated that individuals had since 1906 removed 150 bodies of relatives, making a total of 369 bodies in the cemetery of which there is definite knowledge. The year 1808 was the earliest burial found among the grave stone inscriptions.
