    Catlin, Ill. - Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Catlin Church of Christ for Wayne Hickman, 79, of 123 Short in Catlin. He died of natural causes Friday (Dec. 18, 1981) at his home. Frank Bush will officiate, and burial will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery west of Catlin. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Carrington Funeral Home in Fairmount. Hickman was an electrical engineering graduate of the University of Illinois. He worked at Commonwealth Edison in Joliet, retiring in 1967. He was a pioneer in the field of rural electricity. Hickman was born Sept. 25, 1902, in Catlin Township, the son of George and Sadie Hopper Hickman. On June 12, 1932, in Catlin, he married Miriam Gilkison, who survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Ann Hickman of Catlin; and a granddaughter, Susan Lynn Hickman of Oklahoma. Hickman was preceded in death by a son, Charles, on June 7, 1970, and by three brothers, Wilfred, Vernon and Owen. DANVILLE COMMERCIAL-NEWS.

    Miriam Lucile Hickman of Catlin died at United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville, Il. on May 15, 1991. She was born in Catlin Township on April 24, 1909, the daughter of
    William Isaac Albert and Sarah Adeline Cox Gilkison. Miriam married Wayne Hickman on June 12, 1932, at her parents' home in Catlin Township. They lived in northern Illinois where he worked as an electrical engineer and returned to Catlin after his retirement. He preceded her in death on Dec. 18,1981. Survivors include a daughter, Ann Hickman; a granddaughter, Susan Hickman; a sister, Dorothy Thielking; a sister-in law, Mary Gilkison; a daughter-in-law, Gloria Baldridge, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Miriam was preceded in death by a son, Charles Wayne Hickman on June 17, 1970; her parents; two brothers, Charles and Sanford Gilkison; and two sisters, Cena Hickman and Iris Davis. Miriam attended Fayette and Plainview Grade Schools and was graduated from Catlin Township High School and Lakeview Hospital School of Nursing. She was a member of Catlin Church of Christ. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, gardening, singing, playing the piano and visiting with relatives and friends. She worked with Girl Scouts, Parent-Teachers Association and church groups, and was known for her good sense of humor. A memorial service will be held at the Catlin Church of Christ at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 1991. Robert Stacy will officiate. Visitation will follow the service. Burial was in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Catlin Township. Memorials may be donated to lllini Children's Christian Home in St. Joseph, Illinois, or Catlin Church of Christ.     Fairmount (CNS) - George Wilfred Hickman, 91, a retired farmer, died unexpectedly about 10 p.m. Friday (Jan. 11, 1963) in St. Elizabeth Hospital where he had been a patient three days. Born June 14, 1871 on the family homestead east of Fairmount, he was a son of Richard and Achsa Pruden Hickman. He lived his entire life on the farm. On Jan. 1, 1896 he married the former Sadie Hopper at Muncie. She died in 1904. Also preceding him in death were a son, four brothers and a sister. Survivors are three sons, Wilfred and Vernon of Fairmount and Wayne of Joliet. Also, 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. S. P. Smith of Olivet. The body is at the Carrington Funeral home, where friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday. Service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, with the Rev. Burton Heleine officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery east of Fairmount. DANVILLE COMMERCIAL-NEWS, 12 Jan. 1963. The obituary's reference to "a sister, Mrs. S. P. Smith of Olivet" refers to a foster daughter of the parents of the deceased.

    MHR note: Willie Gilkison was a strong and long-enduring young man and could cut (with a knife) and shock 1000 socks of corn when 50 was an ordinary man's work. He could lift a horse weighting 100-1100 lbs by crawling under and grasping one fore and one hind leg. He once lifted his cousin, John Hedges, onto the coal house by taking John's wrists in one hand and the slack of John's pants in the other. John was only 10 or 15 pounds lighter than Willie.
