"She was united in marriage to Simon Sirilous Mattix, a Union soldier on January 7, 1868. Seven children were born to this union; one Elida Ann, dying in infancy. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Mattix went to Polk county, Missouri, where they lived a few year; then moved to Kansas in December, 1870. Braving the hardships of the early pioneer life they settled on a farm that is now east of Benedict, where they lived until the husband's death, January 4, 1884.

Mrs. Mattix remained a widow, rearing her small children to manhood and womanhood on the farm. After her children were all married she moved to Benedict where she lived until her death, which occurred after a long period of patient suffering. All her children were at her bedside except one, who lives in El Dorado.

She was a loving mother and was always ready to assist her children in any way possible for her to do. She was very thoughtful of her neighbors and friends, giving a hand of assistance where needed.

She surrendered her life to Jesus when a girl and remained a devoted Christian through her life.

She leaves to mourn her departure six children: Naomi Polson, Andrew Mattix, Eva Fahey and Amazette Polson of Benedict; Edgar Mattix of Buffalo and Simon Mattix of El Dorado; 19 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Evans and Mrs. Nancy Isenburg of Benedict and Mrs. Rebecca Capps of Shelbina, Mo.; and many other relatives and friends.

In November and December, 1862, having been assigned to Brig. Gen. Bilmore's division, it was employed on the line towards Knoxville, Tenn. passing the entire winter in continuous marching. During the spring and summer of 1863 the regiment was employed, by battalion, in West Virginia and Northeastern Tennessee. In Southwest Virginia one of its battalions captured the breech-loading artillery so well know in connection with the history of Marshall's invasion. The services of this regiment were of the most active and efficient character. Its skirmishes and small fights were numerous and its marches continuous and severe. Among other, this regiment participated in the engagements of Elk Fork, Tenn; Gladesville, VA; Triplett's Bridge, Ky; Lancaster, Ky; Richard, Ky (1863); and in the pursuit and rout of the rebel cavalry of Pegran and Scott, beside the numerous affairs attending the advance of Maj. Gen. Granger upon central Kentucky. The regiment was mustered out at Maysville, Ky. 17 September 1863 by Capt. R. B. Hull, United States Army."
