    Mrs. M.A. Hedge
Mrs. Matilda A. Hedges died on Saturday night, January 7, at 8:45 o’clock, at the age of 85 years, 8 months and 21 days. Mrs. Hedges suffered a stroke of paralysis on August 20, last, and had been an invalid since that time. Two weeks ago, bronchial pneumonia developed and was the immediate cause of her death.
Mrs. Hedges was born on May 15, 1942, in Guilford County, North Carolina, and while still a child was taken by her grandparents to Indiana, where she grew to womanhood. She first was married to Jacob Greeson and became the mother of three children by this marriage. Two sons died in infancy, a daughter, now Mrs. Charles Stroup, of near Lebanon surviving. Mr. Greeson, a Federal soldier, died during the Civil War.
Mrs. Hedges had a vivid remembrance of the stirring events of that period and of the Lincoln presidential campaigns, having often seen the martyred President.
A few years following the close of the Civil War, she was married to Francis M. Hedges and one son, Charles Hedges, was born in this union. After the death of Mr. Hedges in 1881, she came to Lebanon and here the remainder of her life was spent in the homes of her son and daughter. In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Stroup, and son, Charles Hedges, she is survived by seven grand-children: Homer and Fred Stroup, of Laclede County; Charlie Holman and James Stroup, of Oklahoma; Wilbert Stroup and Mrs. Lydia Howard, of Newberg, and Mrs. Hazel Eoff, of Springfield. There are thirteen great-grand-children.
Funeral services were held on Monday, at New Hope, Rev. Homer King officiating. Interment was in New Hope Cemetery.
The Laclede County Republican, Lebanon, Missouri. Friday 13 January 1928.
