    Fatally Burned Monday Morning
    Mrs. Lydia Seals Died From Burns of an Oil Stove Explosion.
    Mrs. Lydia Seals, sister-in-law of Mrs. Eva Helms of this city, was fatally burned at her home in Purdin, Monday morning. Mrs. Seals was in the kitchen when an oil stove exploded, the flames of which ignited her clothing and hair. She was taken in an unconscious condition to the McLarney hospital in Brookfield where death occurred at 12 o’clock.
    Arrangements for the funeral to be held Thursday afternoon are under the direction of the Chaney Funeral Home of Milan. Burial will be made in the family lot in the Milan cemetery.
    Mrs. Seals is survived by a brother, Dr. Pomps Helms of Eugene, Ore., a former resident of this city. Her brothers, Wallace Helms and Ed Helms, preceded her in death. Her husband died eight years ago.
    Mrs. Seals, who was 70 years old, made her home with her sister-in-law, Mrs. Lula Helms in Purdin. At the time of the accident Monday, Mrs. Helms was in the garden.
    The kitchen in which the explosion occurred was badly damaged.

    Married Mary J Barnes 1866 (to this union 9 children were born) - she died Aug 10, 1903, he then married Mrs. Libbie Cooley of Gentry Arkansas 13 Jan 1908. Isaac died at his son Oliver's home Milan MO.

    Notes:

    Mary J. Seals was born in Bumont county Ohio October 10th 1842, and died at her home three miles southeast of Milan Aug. 16th 1903 aged 60 years and ten months. When but eight years of age, moved with her parents to West Virginia. She was united in marriage to I.M. Seals January 6th 1866. To this union were born nine children.
    She was converted in early life and was a member of the M.E. church over forty years. She has an affectionate wife, a kind mother and was loved and respected by all who know here. She leaves a husband, five children and a host of friends to mourn their loss. The funeral services were conducted in the Sullivan church by Rev. J.S. Howard after which the remains were laid to rest in the Shatto cemetery.

    Notes:

    Simon Helms was born October 28th, 1844 in the State of Ohio. Departed this life after a lingering illness and much suffering with heart trouble July 28th 1900, age 55 years and ten months.
    Deceased came to this county when only an infant and has ever since resided in or near Sullivan county. At the time of his death he resided at Purdin, Mo. He was first married to Miss Mary Cassity, who died some years ago, having two sons and one daughter who still survive. Mr. Helms was married the second time to Miss Ida Belt, who with one child survives to mourn her sad loss.
    The funeral service was conducted at Shatto cemetery by Rev. B.H. Wilson, Sunday, July 29th. Mr. Helms was highly respected and a large number of friends were present at the funeral service.
    The Milan Standard, Milan, Missouri. Thursday, 2 August 1900.
