Millicent “Millie” Hedges Carpenter Jackson, age 89, of Little Buck Hill Rd. in Newland, NC, died Monday, July 15, 2019, at Spruce Pine Hospital in Spruce Pine, NC.
Born on May 17, 1930, in Kieffer, W. Va., she was the daughter of the late Lacy Circle Hedges and Edith Frances Dietz Hedges. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Husband: Ted Carpenter, infant Son: Nelson Carpenter and her second Husband: Willard “Bill” Jackson.
Millie was a very active member of the community as a member of Walnut Grove Church where she enjoyed the fellowship of Woman of Worth. Her love of education inspired her commitment to her students, and in post-retirement her continued involvement in the North Carolina Association of Educators. She also enjoyed crafts and spending time with her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Newland, N.C. – Mrs. Edith Deitz Hedges, 92, formerly of Crawley, died Monday, Feb. 13, 1995 in Spruce Pine Rest Home, following a long illness.
Born at Keiffer, she was the daughter of the late Theodore H. and Ora Beitz Deitz.
Mrs. Hedges was a member and Sunday School teacher of the Amwell Baptist Church at Rupert and was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lacy C. Hedges on Oct. 3, 1993.
Survivors include two daughters, Millicent Carpenter of Newland, N.C. and Mary Ellen Healy of Austin Minn.; a son, James Willard Hedges of Glen Ellen, Ill.; two brothers, Joe Deitz and Witley Deitz, both of Rupert; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Leroy Crane officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Amwell Cemetery at Crawley.

Rites Set Today For Ora E. Deitz
Kieffer (RNS) – Funeral services for Mrs. Ora Elizabeth Deitz, 92, of Kieffer will be at 2 p.m. today in the Beaver Creek Baptist Church at Kieffer with Rev. Leroy Crane in charge.
Burial will be in the Old Amwell Cemetery at Crawley.
She died Sunday morning at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Edith Hedges of Crawley.
Other survivors include a foster daughter, Mrs. Irene Martindale of Crawley; five sons, Everil H. of Clintonville, William of Kieffer and Joseph, Frank and Whitley, all of Rupert; two sisters, Mrs. Betty Zopp and Mrs. Eleanor Robinson, both of Rupert; a brother, Walter Beitz of Rupert; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
The body is at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Rainelle.
