    Monticello, Ind. - Services for Clyde E. "Spank" Mays Jr., 70, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Fenn Funeral Home at Kokomo, with calling 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.
    Mr. Mays, formerly of Kokomo, died Wednesday.
    He was president of Mays Roofing Inc. in Kokomo from 1947 to 1977. He also has served as a building inspector for the Veterans Administration and served on the Howard County Selective Service Board.
    In 1987 he established Clyde E. Mays & Associates in Monticello.
    A World War II Marine veteran, he was a member of Kokomo First Christian Church, American Legion, 40 & 8, Elks Lodge, Kokomo Country Club and Tippecanoe Country Club at Monticello. He was a member of Scottish Rite, Murat Temple and Antelope Club at Indianapolis.
    Survivors - wife Nancy L. Morrow Mays; son Charles Mays; daughters Julie A. Sanderson, Sandra L. Davis; seven grandchildren.

    Clyde E. Mays Sr., 90, 409 W. Mulberry St., former Kokomo businessman and city councilman, died early Saturday morning, March 22, 1980, in St. Joseph Memorial Hospital.
    Born March 8, 1896, he was the son of Charles and Emmaline Mays. He was first married to Myrtle Dalton who died in 1953. He married Mildred Shaffer who died in 1961. He then married Lula Tucker, who survives.
    In 1938, he formed Mays Roofing Co. and was active in the firm until five years ago.
    Mays was a prominent figure in Kokomo city government in the 1950s. A Democrat, he was a member of the Kokomo Common Council eight years, beginning in 1952, where he served as councilman-at-large.
    He also served on the Kokomo Plan Commission and the Kokomo Board of Zoning Appeals.
    He was a real estate appraiser for Veteran's Administration housing and was the first chairman of the board of directors of Kokomo Federal Savings and Loan Association.
    He began work as a young man as a roll turner at Continental Steel Corp. and then was associated with Clarence Bugher in the roofing business in 1930.
    After selling his share of the business to Bugher in 1932, he formed Central Roofing and Heating Co. at Rochester with John Clary. He returned to Kokomo in 1938 and formed his own roofing company.
    He was a member of the First Christian Church, Masonic Lodge, Kokomo Shrine Club, Royal Jesters, Scottish Rite and Elks Lodge.
    Surviving with his wife, are one son, Clyde E. Mays Jr., three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
    Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Fenn Funeral Home with the Rev. Dan Kechel officiating. Burial will be in Crown Point Cemetery.
    Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.

    Myrtle M. Mays Dies Sunday At Home in Kokomo
    Mrs. Myrtle M. Mays, wife of City Councilman Clyde E. Mays, died Sunday at her home, 915 E. Taylor St., following an illness of about seven months. She underwent surgery at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Indianapolis, in February.
    She was born in Fairmount, Ill., and moved to Kokomo about 50 years ago. She and Mr. Mays were married in 1910.
    Mrs. Mays was a member of the Main Street Christian Church and of the Whatsoever Club of that church.
    Surviving with the husband are a son, Clyde Jr.; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Nannie B. Fenstermaker of Marion and Mrs. Bessie Brown of Hobart; and three brothers, Charles A. Daulton of Fort Wayne, William Daulton of Lancaster, Pa., and James Daulton of Dallas, Tex.
    The body was removed to the Rich Funeral Home, where friends may call after 3 p.m. Monday. Funeral services have been set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Main Street Christian church with the pastor, the Rev. Jo M. Riley, officiating. Burial will follow in Crown Point Cemetery.

    End Comes Early Sunday At Lafayette: Funeral Rites To Be Tuesday
    Joseph B. Daulton, 77, died at 4:45 o’clock Sunday morning at the William Ross sanitorium at Lafayette, after a lingering illness.
    Mr. Daulton was born Oct. 6, 1859, at Maysville, Mascon county, Ky. At the age of 21 he was married to Ada M. Hitchcock of Kentucky. Following their marriage they moved to Champaign county, Ill., and after several years farming in Illinois, they came to Kokomo. The wife died in December, 1915.
    Following the death of his wife, Mr. Daulton made his home with a daughter, Mrs. William Fenstermaker, at Rochester. He returned to Kokomo last April when the daughter moved here.
    Surviving are four sons and three daughters, Charles Daulton, of Fort Wayne, Ben of Wilmington, O., William of Kokomo, Claude of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Arthur Brown of Gary and Mrs. Clyde Mays and Mrs. William Fenstermaker, both of Kokomo. He leaves also one brother, C.A. Daulton of Anderson, and a sister, Mrs. Andy Eden of Amarillo, Texas.
    Funeral services will be held at 10 o’clock Tuesday afternoon at the Rich funeral home, 300 Mulberry street, followed by burial in Crown Point cemetery. The body will be taken to the home of the daughter, Mrs. Fenstermaker, 916 East Taylor street Monday afternoon and will remain there until time for the funeral.

    John Jefferson Hitchcock, died Tuesday night at 10;20, at the home of his niece, Mrs. Robert Bush of Siloam, Ky., at the ripe old age of 87 years, eleven months and twenty one days. He was well known in that vicinity where he leaves a number of friends. One brother Caleb Hitchcock of St. Paul, Ky., survives. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at one o’clock at the Mt. Zion cemetery.
