Her warmth and sunny personality had a positive affect on all those that were fortunate enough to know her. She will be tremendously missed. To her sons, Rodney and Scotty, she was more than their best friend. Mom proved to be the shining example of courage, humor and grace in the face of all the adversity life has to offer. To her grandchildren, Granny Bob provided the same unconditional love she had for her own sons. To her many friends, Bobbi was a constant. A friend that would listen to any personal problems and be known to keep it in confidence. All who knew her will miss her strength and wise counsel. 10691 Young Man Is Killed
John Kelso Struck by Wabash Train Monday Morning
John Kelso, who recently moved from near Homer with his father, was killed while working on the Wabash section here on Monday. Kelso, with several other of the section men, was working a short distance west of the depot, and when No.51 approached he failed to hear the train and stepped directly in front of it. He was thrown from the track with both legs broken and a large gash in his forehead. Drs. Martin and Mallory were immediately summoned to the freight house, where the injured man had been carried, but were unable to save him and he died within an hour after being struck.
A coroner’s inquest was held at the undertaking parlors of Heins & Creamer Wednesday morning and the verdict of the jury was that the deceased came to his death by being struck by engine No.177, pulling Wabash train No.51 and “we further find that the engineer was negligent in the performance of his duty in not giving the proper lookout within the yard limits of the village of Tolono.”
The jury was composed of W.A. Perkins, foreman, J.W. Laughlin, G.E. Duell, George E. Mecham, and A.C. Perkins.
The remains ot the dead youth were taken to Homer on Tuesday afternoon, and the funeral services were held at a church east of that place and interment took place at a cemetery in that vicinity.

10692 Young Mother Dies
Mrs. George McGhee, 35 years of age, died at her home a few miles east of Purdin at 11 a.m. Saturday. About three weeks ago a splinter entered on of Mrs. McGhee’s fingers which caused blood poisoning from which she never fully recovered. Later she suffered an attack of typhoid which was the immediate cause of her death. She was a loving disposition, always finding good in everyone and will be greatly missed by her many friends.
Lillie Henderson Garrett, a daughter of John J. and Martha Garrett, was born May 12, 1888, and died August 11, 1923, therefore was 35 years, 2 months and 29 days in this life. She was married to George McGhee in 1908 and to this union three children were born, Vonice age 12 and Genevieve age 8 and Urby age 4 years. Besides her immediate family she leaves one brother, J.W. Garrett of Browning, and three sisters, Mrs. Clarence Tattershall of Purdin; Mrs. Ben Peery of Linneus and Mrs. Dan Nickell of Brookfield and numerous other relatives and friends. Knowing her intimately as we did, cheerful, responsive and ever willing to help others, it is almost impossible to realize that she is gone. There is comfort in the thought that life never ends, and that somewhere is the face not seen, the voice not heard, the heart so brave, so steadfast, so true that somewhere free from earthly pains and care, joyous, alive and happy she awaits us. May the grief of her departing be assuaged by the remembrance of her thoughtful presence and many deeds of loving kindness that made her life a daily pleasure to all who passed her way.
Funeral services were conducted from the Purdin Christian church of which she was a member, Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. by Rev. Acre after which interment occurred in the Purdin cemetery.
“With careful hands she strewed life’s destined fields,
With kindly thoughts and goodly deeds,
With love each stony place was made to yield
Sweet ministry to other’s needs.
And now, the world is poorer far we say
But heaven is richer since she went away.”
