He was united in marriage to Effie Cassity April 6, 1905. To this union three children were born, Merle Pulliam of Phoenix, Ariz.; Rosetta Wohler, Purdin, Mo; and Wallace Pulliam of Phoenix, Ariz. He was later married to Genevieve Cassity. Besides the wife and three children he leaves four grand-children, Jimmie and Virginia Wohler of Purdin and Jimmie and Richard Dean Pulliam of Phoenix; two brothers, J.W. Pulliam of Phoenix; Dave of Brookfield, 18 nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing. Four brothers and one sister preceded him in death. Frank lived his entire life in and near Purdin. Services were held at his home in Purdin at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 20, 1947, conducted by Rev. E.M. Himes of Unionville. The song service was by W.W. Western, Van Vencill, Mrs. Orlando Johnson and Mrs. Orville Cokerham. The bearers, all nephews, were Harold, Donald, Gail and Ray Pulliam, Robert Ross and Chas. Gooch. In March 1934 he married the former Irene Conn in Yuma, AZ. She preceded him in death in 1992. He moved to the Klamath Basin in 1945 after serving with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was employed with Southern Pacific Railroad and Amtrak, retiring in 1987 at the age of 77. He was a resident of Mooresville. He was born Nov. 3, 1918, in Indianapolis. His parents were Cyrus and Minnie (Sterrett) Spaulding. He married Jeanne E. (Edwards) Spaulding on March 19, 1937, in Indianapolis. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Wallace Spaulding of Mooresville and Phillip Spaulding of Plainfield; four daughters, Jeanne Spaulding of Mooresville, Suellen Jones of Marco, Rebecca Shannon of Coatesville and Karen Patterson of Indianapolis; 22 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Minnie Marie Terry and Bessie Hammonds. He was employed by FMC Link Belt as a precision grinder for 39 years, retiring in 1980. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1111 in Mooresville. The Rev. He was born Jan. 11, 1920, in Indianapolis. His parents were Laben and Bertha (Cobb) Brooks. He married Mary L. (Selke) Brooks on Jan. 20, 1940. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Michael L. Brooks of Monrovia, Charles L. Brooks of Rockville and Robert L. Brooks of Greenwood; five sisters, Deloris Cowger, Judy Daugherty and Dorothy Hershberger, all of Indianapolis, Bertha Conley of Clarksville, Tenn., and Norma Jean Berndt of Greenwood; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and five sisters. He was employed by Eli Lilly and Co. in the plant security department for 35 years, retiring in 1981. He attended Community Church of Greenwood and was a member of Southport Masonic Lodge 270 and the Indianapolis Scottish Rite. He was fire chief of Perry Township from 1964 to 1966, an honorary Marion County sheriff and a special deputy of Indianapolis Police Department. His hobbies were golf, woodworking and camping. | 1561 | Fred "Ken" Dalpiaz, 73, of Ridgecrest, CA passed away on 10 Nov 2016 in Ridgecrest and is survived by his wife Juanita Dalpiaz, son Shane Dalpiaz, sisters Sheron Anderson and Patty Brown, stepsons Gregory Rickets and Chris Rickets, stepdaughter Denice Hunter and many nephews and nieces. Ken was preceded in death by his father, Fred, mother Vivian and brother Michael Dalpiaz. Ken was born on 29 Jun 1943 in Los Angeles, CA to Fred and Vivian Dalpiaz. Ken first met his father, Fred Dalpiaz, Jr. when he was 2 years of age because of World War II. In February 1963 Ken and his family came to China Lake, CA, where his father was a Navy chief petty officer who retired here in 1965. Ken worked as a civil servant in the China Lake Security Department from 1969 to 1974, then took a position within the Electronic warfare Department. Later he worked on the Sidewinder missile program. He finished his career as a logistic manager before retiring in 1998. Ken supported both community and charity events. Ken and Juanita were involved with the Ridgecrest Elks Lodge No. 1913 where Ken was the Exalted Ruler in 2012. | 1562 | Fred W. Armstrong Passed Away In Brookfield, Mo. Funeral services for Fred W. Armstrong, who died Saturday afternoon at his home, 322 Hunt St., Brookfield, Mo., were conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Kelly at two o’clock, on Tuesday afternoon, February 4, 1958 at the Hill Funeral Home. Burial was made in the Purdin cemetery. Mr. Armstrong, 78, was a former employee of the Burlington Railroad working with a section crew. He had been retired since 1947. He was born June 27, 1879, in Varinda, Canada, the son of Thomas and Jean Armstrong. On September 21, 1921, he was united in marriage to Clara Cassity. To this union was born five daughters. Mr. Armstrong is survived by his wife of the home and five daughters, Mrs. Charles (Frances) Simpson, Chicago, Ill; Mrs. Howard (Irene) Walsh, St. Joseph, Mo.; Mrs. William (Dorothy) Miller, Brookfield, Mo.; Mrs. Alvin (Mary) Schreckhise, Brookfield; Mrs. Edward (Betty) Stanfield, Brookfield, five grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. | 1565 | Frederick Earl Cassity, 92 Memorial services for Frederick Earl Cassity, 92, who died Saturday at Sperry’s Nursing Home, were held at the Purdin cemetery this morning at 11 o’clock under the direction of the Lindley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Walter Bingham officiating. Mr. Cassity has been disabled many years, having suffered a stroke in 1955. | 1573 | Friends gave her a surprise (Press-Democrat Special.) Fairmount, Ill., Sept. 2. - One of the most delightful entertainments of the season was the birthday surprise on Mrs. Geo. Hedge last Sunday, at her home northeast of the village. The event was planned and executed by her husband and daughters. While Mrs. Hedges was busily engaged in serving dinner to some friends who had accompanied her home from Sunday school and church, her friends to the number of seventy-five or more slipped into the front rooms of her home and came marching out to the dining room with her mother in the lead, which, by the way, was a great surprise, the latter having come out from Danville. The afternoon was spent in a social and religious way. About 4 o'clock the crowd repaired to the front yard where some fifteen or twenty minutes was devoted to song and prayer, and the breaking of bread, which was presided over by Rev. Scott, of Danville, after which the remainder of the evening was spent in song, and social conversation, and the eating of cream, cake and candy and fruit, and a general good time was enjoyed by all. One singular feature connected with their gathering was that the hostess was surprised on her 18th birthday in 1888, in the same house where she now lives. His wife died year and a half ago. He came to Linn Co in the fall of 1858 and remained on his homestead over 50 years. Served 3 and a half years as Sgt.Co F 1st MO State Cavalry. Charles Henry Hedges, who devotes his energies and time to rural occupations, was born on the old Hedges homestead farm in Frederick District, on the Emmitsburg pike, Frederick County, January 23, 1858. He is the son of Daniel and Catherine (Devilbiss) Hedges. ... He acquired his education in the public schools at Dublin, Frederick County. He gave up school at the age of nineteen, and worked for his mother on the place farmed by his brother David, until he attained his majority. After his marriage, which took place in 1888, he began farming on his own account in Walkersville District, remaining there for one year. Mr. Hedges then removed to his present farm, owned by Clay Fulton, of Walkersville, and here he has since lived. He died at the age of forty years and his children inherited his share of his father's estate. He used his right of franchise to further the interests of the Republican Party. Mr. Hedges was married to Catharine Devilbiss, daughter of Daniel and Lucretia Devilbiss. She died at Walkersville in 1896.
