She was born July 23, 1917 in BelleRive Township, Ill., the daughter of Charles and Blanche (Orrick) Crouch. She married Raymond O. Jackson Dec. 29, 1933 in Mt. Vernon, Ill. Ada was employed by Brody’s, Fall Products in Genoa and Cord’s in DeKalb for many years. She is survived by four sons, Orval R. Jackson of Belvidere, Charles (Janice) Jackson of Tablerock, Neb., Franklin Jackson of Omaha, Neb. and Larry Jackson of Belvidere; one daughter, Kathy Sanders of Steward, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four brothers, M.A. (Pat) Crouch of Aurora, Charles Crouch of Woodlawn, Tom (Mary) Crouch of DeKalb and Bill (Lillian) Crouch of DeKalb; five sisters, Hattie Rapp of Bluford, Ill., Eleanor Gregory of Bluford, Elfreda Ellis of DeKalb, Mary (Jack) Border of DeKalb and Ruthann DeLaney of Mt. Vernon; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, three sisters, one half-sister and three half-brothers. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Slater-Butala Funeral Home of Genoa, with the Rev. James P. Freund officiating. Burial will be in the Genoa Cemetery. | 253 | Adams Joseph M. Adams, Sr., 82, Versailles, husband of Catherine Gilkison Adams, died Wednesday, November 7, 2001 at the Samaritan Hospital, Lexington. Born in Woodford Co., September 15, 1918 he was the son of the late Matt L. and Callie Lathrem Adams. Mr. Adams was a cattle grader and buyer for fifty years at Bluegrass Stockyards and was a member of the Versailles Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was also a WWII veteran having served in the US Army Air Corps. Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters, Judy O. Adams, VA and Joan A. Drury, Hopkinsville; two sons, Jeremy A. “Jere” Adams and Jeff Adams, both of Versailles; four brothers, Theodore Adams, Lexington, Johnny Adams, OH, Matt Adams, Jr., Lexington, and ray Adams, MD; special aunt, Elizabeth White, Lawrenceburg; nine grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Joseph M. Adams, Jr. and one brother, Frank Adams. Funeral services 2 p.m. Friday at Versailles Baptist Church with Revs. John Brandon and John Kruschwitz officiating. Burial in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens. | 254 | Adams services set RIVERTON – Services for Mrs. Alta Belle Adams, 74, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Davis Funeral Home. The Rev. J. Holland Vernon of the United Methodist church will officiate. Mrs. Adams died Saturday at Fremont Manor Nursing Home. She was born Jan. 4, 1904, at Browning, Mo., and came to Riverton in 1909, with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gardner. On Aug. 15, 1925, she married Delbert Adams in Riverton. They lived at the Pilot Butte Power Plant at Morton until 1939, and then moved to Pavillion where they lived until 1952, and later at Boysen Dam until 1956. They lived at Riverview until 1972, and following the death of her husband that year, she moved into Riverton where she had lived since that time. She was a member of the Methodist W.S.C.S., Order of the Eastern Star, Riverview Women's club, World War I Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 61. Mrs. Adams was a past president of the auxiliary. Survivors are two sons, Delbert of Fort Smith, Mont., and Charles of Hawthorne, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Goldie Farrens of Riverton and Mrs. Leona Klotz of New Richland, Minn.; one brother, Earl Gardner of Kinnear; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was the daughter of the late Jesse and Tinnie Kinman Hicks, a farmer and former assembler for the Gibson Winery, and a member of the Gumlick Baptist Church. On September 6, 1944 she was united in marriage to Joseph Junior McClanahan who died March 14, 2007. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by 2 sons, Robert Allen and James Garol McClanahan Funeral services will be 2:00pm Saturday, July 30, 2017 at the Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, followed by burial in the Williamstown Cemetery. | 273 | Aged Man Dies Suddenly Reads to Daughters and Expires as He Locks Door for the Night. Death stalked unwelcome in to the midst of the Otis family, 2500 Schurmann avenue, last night. David Otis, age 68, was reading with this daughter in the sitting room of the home. It was an evening custom in the Otis home, as the father’s eyes were growing dim. He and his daughter talked some of what they had read, and the old man got up from the table and walked toward the front door to lock it and get ready for bed. With his hand on the lock he reeled and fell. The daughter sprang to his side, but the tongue which would have answered her questioning was stilled. The cause of death is given as heart trouble. He had been feeling very well for several days, and had made no complaint of any sort. A son, Harry Otis, travels with the John Robinson Circus. | 274 | Aged Resident In Allerton Is Taken By Death Mrs. Philora Hedges, 80, died at 5:20 o’clock Tuesday morning (January 31, 1928) at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lottie Clester. Infirmities and heart disease caused her demise. She had been ill for several weeks. The exact hour for the funeral has not been set, but it will be held sometime Thursday at the Presbyterian church with Rev. J. M. Bean, officiating. Burial will be in the Fairfield cemetery. Mrs. Hedges was born at Greenup, Ky., Sept. 28, 1847. She came to Allerton 45 years ago. Dec. 26, 1866 she was married to James A. Hedges who died six years ago. She leaves the following children: Mrs. George Clifton, of Moneta, Ia.; Mrs. Edward Ellis, of Macy, Ind.; Mrs. Thomas Smith, of Homer, Ill.; Mrs. Lottie Clester, of Allerton, and George Hedges, of Gilmore City, Ia. | 275 | AGED WOMAN DEAD MRS. JULIA A. HEDGES WHO CAME HERE SEVENTY YEARS AGO Julia A. Hedges, who is believed to have nearly been 100 years old, was found dead in bed at her home, 1012 Rhode Island Street, yesterday morning by her son, Jonas Hedges. Her husband, Monroe Hedges, who says he was 105 years old Feb. 11, survives her. Mrs. Hedges came with her relatives from Flemingsburg, Fleming County, Kentucky, about seventy years ago and settled in Indianapolis. At that time Indianapolis was a village, and the greater part of the houses were located west of the river. Mr. Hedges arrived a few weeks later and he and Mrs. Hedges were married. At first they lived in a tent, but soon secured a house. Mr. Hedges was a wagon maker and he also worked on the old Madison Railroad. At present he lives in a little house back of the one occupied by his son. There is an old wagon shop on the lot, where he spends the greater part of his time. | 276 | Ages Woman Dies of Paralytic Stroke Mrs. Sarah Caroline Schoonover, mother of William Schoonover, of Chalmers, passed away at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Grace Annis, northwest of Headlee, Monday noon at 11:30 o'clock. Mrs. Schoonover was born March 15, 1955, in Jasper County, the daughter of Joseph and Emaline Pearson. The husband, Ancil B. Schoonover, preceded her in death serval years ago. Mrs. Schoonover had been in poor health for several months, but last week suffered a paralytic stroke from which she never regained consciousness. She leaves the following children: Mary Kuns, of Monon; Wm. Schoonover, of Chalmers; George, of Exire, Iowa; Jess, of Des Moines, Iowa; Ross and Fred, of Guthrie Center, Iowa; Charles, of Gary; and Mrs. Grace Annis, of Star City, with whom she made her home. The body was brought to the Prevo and Son Funeral Home and prepared for burial, and will be returned to the Annis home Wednesday evening. Short services will be held Thursday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock at the home of the daughter and the body will be taken to the Methodist church in Medaryville where services will be held at 2:00 o'clock. I sued to raise his ire by remarking that I though Alexander Hamilton was right when he said the common people were not qualified for self-government. | 285 | Albert Gilkison Flemingsburg, Ky., Nov. 14 (Special) – Albert Edison Gilkison, retired Helena farmer, died last night at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Frank Holler, near Flemingsburg. He was 78 years old In addition to the daughter, he leaves six other daughters and four sons. They are Mrs. Herbert Million, Fleming County; Mrs. Fletcher Saunders, Seaman, Ohio; Mrs. Sarah Walker, Mrs. Worthie Hamm and Mrs. Myrtle Gordon, all of Dayton, Ohio; Mrs. Beulah Maynard, Winchester, Ohio; Bruce Gilkison, Mason County; W.M. Gilkison and Luther and Stanley Gilkison, both of Fleming County, and Ambrose Gilkison, Versailles, Ky.; also 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. | 286 | Albert Hawkins, farmer residing about two and one-half miles west of Brookfield on the old Laclede highway, took his own life about 7 o’clock Saturday morning by shooting himself through the head with a shotgun as he sat in his home. Hawkins, who was past 70 years of age, was said to have been despondent in recent months over bad health. Rev. M.W. | 290 | Alberta Jean Kissick Lowe, age 87, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday December 4, 2016 at 10:13 P.M. She was born August 21, 1929 in New Castle, Indiana. She was the Daughter of Arthur Virgil Kissick and Hazel Olliemae (Sparks) Kissick. Alberta was married to Clyde Kenneth Lowe on July 23, 1949 and they had one Son. They were married for 67 years. Alberta loved her Yorkie dog, Fuzzy and taught Fuzzy to shake paws. At her request Fuzzy is being cared for by her Sister, Janet. Alberta enjoyed cooking, sewing and listening to country and religious music. Alberta graduated from Spiceland High School in 1945. Starting at age 16, she worked for Horney’s Music Store located at 1215 Race Street in New Castle. She was a sales clerk there for 28 years. She then worked for Caroll Irvine at C&A Music, located at 1414 Broad Street in New Castle for 25 years, until Mr. Irvine’s retirement. Alberta then started her own music store at 1561 Broad Street, retaining the name C&A Music. She operated her store until becoming ill. The store closed October 19, 2015, after having been operated by her Husband and Sister for a short time. Alberta was preceded in death by her Husband, Clyde Kenneth Lowe on December 16, 2008 and their Son, James Kenneth Lowe on July 3, 1964. She is also joining her Parents, Arthur and Hazel Kissick, her In-Laws, Emery and Goldie Belcher, one Sister, Sylvia Christine Murphy, three Brothers; Richard Eugene Kissick, Arthur Lennard Kissick and Melvin Howard Kissick,, three Brothers-in-law; James Ewing Smith, Vurl Lowe and Elmer Lowe, and a Sister-in-law, Patsy Kissick, In-laws, Elmer and Betty Walker, in Heaven. Alberta is survived by her Sister, Janet Ruth Smith and Companion Gary Logan of New Castle, her Brother Gerald Kissick and Wife, Violet of New Castle, her Sisters-in-law, Marilyn Kissick of Mt. Summit and Evelyn Lowe of New Castle, Step Mother, Neva Kissick of New Castle, Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins. | 293 | Alexander – On Saturday morning Mrs. Alexander, wife of Representative Lewis Alexander of Owen county, died in her room at the Capital Hotel of erysipelas, the result of a slight bruise inflicted accidentally by striking her foot against a chair. It was but a few months ago that Mr. Alexander was called to mourn the death of a daughter, and now in the death of his beloved wife his cup of sorrow is full to overflowing. The bereaved husband, who with his wife made numerous friends here during their stay in this city, has the sympathy of the entire community, as well as that of the Legislature, which gave expression to its sorrow in a suitable resolution.
