7051 | Jess Robert Hedges Died October 17 Near Cestos Jess Robert Hedges, age 71, passed away Sunday, October 17, at his home in the Cestos community. He had been in poor health for some time. Mr. Hedges was a pioneer of this section, having resided on the same place in the Cestos community for thirty-three years. He was widely known and it was with much sadness that his many friends learned of his passing. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife of the home; six sons, Jesse M. of Vici, Fay M. of Selling, Gordon of Vici, Elmer of Temple Arizona, Frank of Cloudcroft, New Mexico and Leonard Ray of the U.S. Army in service overseas; two daughters, Mrs. Norm Wildman and Mrs. Lynn Espy, both of Vici; besides other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held at Richmond Christian church Wednesday afternoon with Rev. Lowe of Woodward officiating. 7052 | Jesse C. Knouse 87, of 204 Turner St. died at Livingston Manor In Chillicothe, Mo. He was born November 19, 1888, the son of Samuel Knouse and Maude Summers Knouse. On March 16, 1910, he married in Chillicothe Emma Mae Cassity. He was a member of the Church of Christ, Masonic Lodge No. 89, and 1.0.0.F. Lodge. Mr. Knouse was a life long resident of Chillicothe. He was employed as a blacksmith at the old Jenkins Hay Rake and Stacker Co. and for many year was involved in the Truck Transfer Business. He is survived by four Daughters, Margaret Barett San, Bruno, Calif. Ruby Sprague, Utica Mo. Beulah Cashatt and Rosie Emmons both of Chillicothe. Four sons, Rueben Knouse, stationed In the U.S. Navy, Jesse Knouse Placerville, Calif. Richard Knouse of Chillicothe and Herbert Knouse, Jacksonville, Florida. 7053 | Jesse L. "Red" Page Jesse I. "Red" Page, 78, Rushville, MO, died Tuesday, November 9, 1999, at the Atchison Hospital. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, November 11, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, KS; burial in the Sugar Creek Cemetery near Rushville. Masonic services will be held at the graveside. Contributions in his memory may be made to either the Sugar Creek Cemetery Association or the Rushville Masonic Lodge. Jesse Page was born on November 22, 1920, near Rushville, MO., the son of Jess and Jessie May Browning Page. He attended Valley Chapel grade school, graduated from DeKalb High School and also attended Hillyard N.S. Technical School in St. Joseph, MO. Mr. page served in the Army during World War II, serving in occupied Japan. Mr. Page was a lifelong Buchanan and Platte Co. farmer. He farmed throughout his life on the family farm which was homesteaded by his family in the 1830's. He was a member of the Sugar Creek Christian Church and a 50 year member of the Rushville Masonic Lodge, where he served as past master. He was also a 25 year member of the DeKalb Eastern Star, vice president and longtime member of the Sugar creek Cemetery Association and a former Buchanan county ACSC committeeman. He and Betty Jane Gilkison were married on April 3, 1946, and she preceded him in death on February 7, 1979. He was also preceded in death by one brother, William E. Page and one sister, Nellie Dilla. Mr. Page is survived by one son, Jesse W. (J.W.) Page, Lee's Summit, MO; three sisters, Elizabeth Frakes, Rushville, MO, Mary Kuhnert, Atchison, KS, and Nannie Martin, Savannah, MO; and two grandchildren, Cody Lee Page and Sunny Elizabeth Page. 7055 | Joan Coughlin, age 81,of Buckhannon, WV, died Sunday, January 5, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon. She was born September 24, 1932 in Rainelle, WV, a daughter of the late Ronald Ralph and Maude M. McClung Keaveny. On September 12, 1953 she married Billy Levon Coughlin who preceded her in death on January 26, 1996. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Janet Herndon; three brothers, Ronald, Loy and Tommy Keavney; two sisters, Rebecca Darone and Louella Guy and a daughter in law, Krista Coughlin. She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Nesbitt and Christine Carpenter both of Buckhannon; two sons, Billy Coughlin of Miami, FL and Denzil Coughlin of Buckhannon; two granddaughters, Pamela Coughlin and Alice Jeffries both of Buckhannon; two grandsons, Roy Nesbitt and wife Brandi and Jasper Carpenter and wife Michelle all of Buckhannon; four great-granddaughters, Jessica Cutright, Alayna Nesbitt and Jillian Carpenter all of Buckhannon and Kristen Nesbitt of Huttonsville, WV; two great-grandsons, Roy Wade Nesbitt, Jr. and Jonathan Carpenter both of Buckhannon; one brother, Gene Keaveny and wife Kim of Fayetteville, NC and a sister-in-law, Andrea Workman of Buckhannon. 7056 | Joan Louise {Crum} Brazelton, 91, of Chrisman, found eternal rest at 10:43am, Thursday, February 13, 2020, at her home. She was born on July 31, 1928 the daughter of Joseph T. and Nola G. {Dennison} Crum. On June 21, 1947, she was united in marriage to Virgil William "Bill" Brazelton in Brocton, IL. He will miss her dearly. They have celebrated 72 years together and he still carries her high school picture in his wallet. Joan will also be missed by her three children, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren located from Illinois to Ohio to Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers and four sisters. Joan retired from Peterson Puritan Aerosol Plant. She enjoyed making quilts by hand and playing cards with the family. She was known for her home-made noodles at family reunions. She and Virgil were members of the First Church of Christ in Georgetown. 7057 | Joanna Bagley Dies at Age of 5 Months Joanna Bagley, 5 months old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Bagley, of 204 E. Illinois Street, died at a hospital here Tuesday afternoon at 5 o’clock. She had been seriously ill for past eight days. Funeral services will be held in the Summers and Powell Funeral Home tomorrow afternoon at 1 o’clock conducted by the Rev. L.V. Freeman, pastor of the First Christian Church. Interment will be in the Purdin Cemetery. She was born in Kirksville, Oct. 21, 1943, and is survived by her parents, two brothers, Dale and Larry, her grandmother, Mrs. Ursa Ferguson, of Kansas City and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bagley, of Purdin. 7058 | JOHN A. BASFORD SALT LICK -- John A. Basford, 83, Bluestone, died at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Mary Chiles Hospital, Mt. Sterling, after a long illness. A native of Bath County, he was a member of the Christian Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Laura Willis Basford; a son, Harold Basford, Middleton, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. Prudie Ward, Bluestone; three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Meeks, Middletown, Ohio; Mrs. Fanny Stone, Wanatak, Indiana, and Mrs. Mildred Johnson, Harvey, Illinois; a brother, Harry Basford, Harvey, Illinois; two half brothers, Otto Spence, Cedar Grove, West Virginia, and Herbert Spence, Newport; six grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. 7060 | John Abbay Hit Twice At Same Corner Elderly Pedestrian Struck By Auto Dies Victim, aged 71, dies at hospital few hours after mishap The victim of his second traffic accident at the same intersection within six weeks, John Abbay, 71, of 744 East State street, died at Seaside hospital yesterday afternoon from injuries sustained at 10:15 o’clock yesterday morning when hit by a car at Olive avenue and State street. Abbay was struck by a car driven by R.E. Orcutt, 729 St. Louis avenue. The motorist reported to police that his attention was attracted as he approached the intersection by a car pulling away from the curb. When he looked back the elderly pedestrian was in the path of his car, Orcutt reported. Death unexpected Head injuries were suffered by Abbay but his injuries were not considered serious by attending physicians at Seaside hospital until several hours after the accident. Death resulted about 4 o’clock. When taken to the hospital Abbay appeared to be conscious and not seriously injured. In the earlier accident, about six weeks ago, Abbay was struck by a car at the same intersection but not seriously injured. The body is at the J.J. Mottell parlors. The widow, Janella, one daughter, Mrs. Mary Adams of Mexico, Mo., and two brothers, Geroge of Long Beach, and Will of Berkeley, and one sister in Boise, Idaho, survive. He was a member of the Masonic lodge at Mexico, Mo., and belonged to the Modern Woodmen and the Knights Templar. He was born in California and resided here three years, coming here from Missouri. 7066 | John Boyce Dies At Hospital Here John Boyce, 64, a farmer on the William V. Stuart farm on Lafayette Rural Route 8, near Shadeland, died Saturday morning at 10:58 o’clock at the Home hospital where he had been a patient since Wednesday. He had been ill for a week. Mr. Boyce was born in Champaign county ILL., September 24, 1866, and his entire life had been spent in farming. The family have lived in the Shadeland community for four years. In 1887 he was united to marriage to Ida May Clifton, who survives with nine children, Elmer Boyce of Clana Park, Ill.; Clyde Boyce of Rankin, Ill.; Mrs. Effie Wiedner, of Lapel; Mrs. Bessie Bolander, of Chicago; Mrs. Edith Gregory of Grand Rapids, Mich.; Walter Boyce and Ray Boyce of Lafayette, and Cecil Boyce and earl Boyce, at home. Three brothers, Charles Boyce of Battle Ground; George Boyce of Missouri, and Andrew Boyce of Lafayette, also survive. The body was taken to the Rogers and Smith funeral home and will be taken to the family residence near Shadeland Monday morning. He was born July 26, 1928 in Jessamine County to the late John Hunter and Betty Moody Davis. He served our country during the Korean Conflict, had worked for French Bauer and Sealtest Ice Cream Companies and was a retired employee of the U.S. Postal Service and member of Southern Heights Baptist Church. Additional survivors are two daughters, Jackie Sue (Larry) Davis and Melanie Kay Davis-Nicholasville, a son, John Byron (Debra) Davis-Lancaster, four grandchildren, Larry Wayne Davis, Johnny Lee (Rachel Black) Davis, Crystal Lynn Davis (Steve) Fletcher and Elizabeth Claire Davis (Steven) Winchester, four great grandchildren, John Hunter and Kaylee Marie Davis, Alison Faith Winchester and Makenzie Renee Fletcher, brother and sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 7072 | John Donald Morgan was born Nov. 14, 1919 in Royal, Iowa. He was one of 7 children born to James and Mattie Morgan: Evelyn Noreen (Morgan), John Donald Morgan, James Millard Morgan II, Inez May (Clifton), Doris Helen (Tiefel), Lowell Clifton Morgan, and Bernard Franklin Morgan. He served in the Navy during WWII. Don married Bea Hoffman in 1943, in Vallejo, California. They returned to Iowa to farm and became the parents of four children. In 1957 the family moved to Redondo Beach, California and lived there for 23 years. In 1980, Don and Bea moved to Arnolds Park, Iowa, to enjoy their retirement years at their lake home. Don was a member of the V.F.W and the Eagles Lodge. He had a beautiful singing voice, a wonderful sense of humor, and a zest for life. He loved sports, fishing, hunting, golfing, boating, playing cards, and spending time with friends and family. Evans, 90, long active in Democratic state politics, died yesterday of a heart attack while en route from Eminence to a Shelbyville hospital. A native of Carter county, he came to Frankfort in 1904, leaving the mercantile trade at Morehead to accept several appointive posts in Democratic administrations here. He was a strong supporter of the late U.S. senator and governor, J.C.W. Beckham. He had been in failing health for the past two years and had left Frankfort to live quietly in Eminence. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Harry L. Jeffers and Mrs. W.J. Hulette, both of Frankfort, and Mrs. Lester O. Marshall, Cincinnati; two sons, John Clifford Evans, a post office employe here, and Herndon J. Evans, editor of the Pineville Sun and publicity chairman for Gov. Earle Clements' successful campaign for Democratic nomination to the U.S. senate; four brothers, Emery Evans, Olive Hill; Gran Evans, Clemson, S.C.; Sherman Evans, Winter Haven, Fla., and Nelson Evans, Tollesboro; and a sister, Mrs. Connie Logan, Ashland. Mr. Hannah was born April 28, 1861, in Fithian, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hannah, pioneers of Vermilion county. On Dec. 24, 1887, he married Miss Emma Jane Donaldson, a daughter of pioneer farmers of the community. Mr. and Mrs. Hannah moved to a farm near Fithian where they resided until 1910, when Mr. Hannah retired. They then moved to Urbana to make their home. In 1937, Mr. and Mrs. Hannah celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. She died April 1, 1942. Mr. Hannah came to Mattoon in September, 1944. Mr. Hannah is survived by a son, Harry Ingalls Hannah, a Mattoon attorney; three grandchildren, Lieut. Norman B. 7079 | John Harper Dies Suddenly. Sometime Monday afternoon, May 3, 1915, John Harper died at his home south of town. Mr. Harper lived on the T.L. Price place since last March, having moved there from the neighborhood of Hughesville. Monday Mrs. Harper went to Sedalia for the day leaving Mr. Harper in his usual health and at work on the farm. Sometime in the afternoon he went to the house and lay down on the bed and was found there by his wife about 6 o’clock. He was lying on the bed with his hat in his hand and was fully dressed when found. She summoned the hand from the field and Mr. John Teter, a neighbor, who thought from all appearances that the deceased had been dead several hours. Mr. Teter notified the Coroner at Sedalia, who deputized Dr. J.F. Jarvis, of Sweet Springs to determine on the inquest. The Doctor thought none necessary and ordered the body prepared for burial. 7081 | John J. Morgan Crosses Divide Funeral Services for Prominent Sheridan Pioneer Tuesday John J. Morgan, widely known Sheridan county farmer, passed away Saturday at the Sheridan memorial Hospital, after an illness of but a short duration, death being caused by pneumonia. His death marks the passing of one of the early pioneers of this region, he having come here in 1907 and filed on a homestead twelve miles west of Plentywood, which has been his home since. Mr. Morgan was born in Michigan, March 23, 1854. When he was five years old he moved with his parents to Dayton, Wisconsin. At the age of seventeen he journeyed with his parents to Clay County, Iowa in a covered wagon, and a few years later to Laramie, Wyoming, where he spent two years. At the age of 24 he returned to Iowa and was married to Rhoda A. Crosby on March 30, 1879, at Trimello, Iowa. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, two sisters who reside in Iowa and eight children: Mrs. H.H. Harderson, Mrs. Chas. Madsen, Mrs. Hans Madsen, of Arhcer; Mrs. Elsie Kent, Cedar Falls, Iowa; Mrs. L.J. Helgeson, Poplar, Montana; Mrs. Lynne E. Fortsch, Williston, N. Dak.; James Morgan, Royal, Iowa; and Frank W. Morgan, Anaconda. A daughter, Mrs. Freddie Snyder, died at Storm Lake, Iowa, December last. Shorty after Mr. Morgan was married he was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal church. Later he became a member of the Free Methodist Church. Mr. Morgan died Marsh 16 - just one week prior to his 76th birthday and two weeks prior to the date that would have marked the Golden Anniversary of his wedding. He was a man widely known thruout this section of Montana as well as in the Iowa territory where he resided for many years. He leaves a host of friends who have esteemed him highly for his sterling character, neighborliness and progressiveness. 7087 | John Luther Pearson, a well known homesteader who came to Montana three years ago last fall and located near Chaussee, Mont., passed away at Colorado Springs on June 6th, 1917, at the age of 30 years, 2 months and 5 days. The remains were shipped to Ismay Tuesday of this week and the funeral services held in Ekalaka Wednesday, burial being made in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. Mr. Pearson was born at Browning, Missouri, on April 1, 1887, and lived in that state until he came to Montana. McGhee were held at the Church of Christ in Purdin at 2:30, Tuesday afternoon, October 5, 1954, conducted by the Rev. L.E. Ketcherside of Peoria, Illinois. Burial was made in the Purdin cemetery. John H. McGhee was born August 4, 1857 at Enterprise, Missouri, son of John and Elizabeth Bowen McGhee. He passed away at the Mennonite Hospital in Bloomington, Illinois, Friday, October 2, 1954, at the age of 97 years, 2 months and 28 days. Mr. McGhee was united in marriage to Mary E. Fosher, February 21, 1883. To this union ten children were born. He had been making his home with a son, George E. McGhee, of Roanoke, Illinois for the past few years. Saunders who survives him with four children. He left Denison over a year ago and made his home for some months in Topeka from whence he went to Denver, Colo., and later to Las Animas, Colo., where he was working at plastering when he was shot and instantly killed Tuesday March 26th. The body was brought here for burial arriving Saturday evening, the funeral being held next day at the Christian church here at 2 p.m., services being conducted by Rev. Davis of St. Joseph, Mo. 7091 | JOHN MILTON TURLEY was born in 1819 in Montgomery County, Kentucky, and died in 1882 in Glencoe, St. Louis County, Missouri.884 He moved with his family to Gallatin County, Kentucky, and in 1845, at the estate sale after his father's death, purchased a scythe and cradle, a red cow and a bay horse.885 He was still living in the family home in 1850, and was listed as a laborer. in 1851 he and his brothers and sisters sold their share of their late father's property to the eldest brother, Joseph Turley. Sometime after 1851 John M. Turley moved to Missouri where he married Juliann Helterbrand, widow of Thomas Jefferson Medley and daughter of John and Adelade (Younger) Helterbrand. Juliann was born in 1835 and died 2 July 1887 in St. Louis; she was buried in Glencoe Cemetery, according to the death certificate, but the grave has not been located. She married Thomas J. Medley in St. Louis 3 September 1854. According to a deposition by Alen Medly in Jefferson County, Missouri, Thomas J. Medley lived less than a year after his marriage and left no children. His widow subsequently married John M. Turley. To this date no record of the date of place of marriage has been found. It is possible it was in Lewis County, Missouri. In Lewis County, D. S. Hamilton and John M. Turley purchased land from Laban Pruitt. John subsequently sold his share in 1853 to Hamilton. The deed was filed 22 February 1854. The eldest son of John and Juliann, Charles Edward Turley, was born in Lewis County in 1858. In 1862 John M. Turley and Julia his wife of the city of St. Louis for payment of $100.00 conveyed to Joseph Medley their title claims and interest as heirs of Thomas J. Medley in half of thirty-three acres and forty-hundredths of an acre. John M. Turley, Juliann and five children were listed on the 1870 census in Meramec Township of St. Louis County. He was a farmer. 89' They purchased property in 1870 in Franklin County, Missouri near Pacific, from Aaron and Nancy Calvin, but sold the property two years later. john M. Turley and his son, Charles E. Turley, were listed in the St Louis Directory in 1876 and 1877. In the 1880 census John M. Turley was listed in Meramec Township in St. Louis County. From 1884 to 1887 Juliann Turlev was listed as widow of John Turley in the St. Louis Directory.
