9380 | Sophia C. Yeazel, 81, of Fairmount died at 10:24 a.m. Thursday (September 19, 1974) in Lake View Hospital, Danville, where she was admitted Wednesday night. Mrs. Yeazel was born November 10, 1892, east of Jamaica, a daughter of George and Cora B. Gritton Hedges. She was married to C. Rollie Yeazel Oct. 15, 1915, in her parent’s home. Mrs. Yeazel leaves her husband, sons, Harold R. of Marion, Ind., and Howard B. of Catlin, three grandsons, one granddaughter, four great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Willis Fox of Fairmount. 9381 | Sophia M. Larrance, 87, of Ridge Farm, passed away at 1:45 a.m. on Friday, July 7, 2006, at Pleasant Meadows Christian Village. She was born Dec. 15, 1918, the daughter of George and Bertha (Julius) Hedges in Lynn Gove, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Earl "Pat" Larrance on Nov. 11, 1944, in Danville. He preceded Sophia in death in February 1994. Survivors include: her three nieces, Gwen (Jerry) Price of Gravious Mills, Mo., Gayle (Gene) Spesard of Indianola, and Nita (Deane) Winkler of Indianola; and her nephew, Dale (Mona) McCallister of Chandler, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother. Sophia was a member of the Ridge Farm United Methodist Church where she was the organist and pianist for many years. She belonged to the Ridge Farm Women's Club and Home Bureau. She enjoyed gardening and sewing. A celebration of Sophia's life will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 10, 2006, at Sunset's Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home. Pastor Jennie Chin will officiate. 9382 | SOUTH BEND - Mary Alice Ellis, residing in South Bend, passed away at 8:43 a.m. Friday, April 6, 2018 at Memorial Hospital of South Bend. She was 91 years old. She was born Sept. 23, 1926 in Cheyenne, WY, a daughter of Jay Dean & Fannie Mae (Weber) McFarland, and has lived in South Bend since 1945, coming from Colorado. On June 17, 1951 at the First United Methodist Church, South Bend, as Mary Alice McFarland, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Robert F. Ellis. They enjoyed 57 years of marriage until his passing on March 3, 2009. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Barry. Mary Alice is survived by her daughter, Diane (Arnie) Elmerick of Columbus, IN; her two sons, Ronald P. (Priscilla Davis) Ellis of Fort Worth, TX and Rick J. Ellis of Mishawaka, IN; and by Eldon & Darlene Watts of South Bend, who were just like a son and daughter to her. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Robin M. Elmerick, Christian (Michelle) Elmerick, and Courtney (Keenan) Lane; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Cassidy, Matthew, and Zachary Elmerick, and Zabran Lane; and her niece, Barbara Mikkelson of CA. Mrs. Ellis was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church, its Chancel Choir, sang in a Ladies Quartet, and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Presbyterian Players, member and Past President of Psi Iota Xi Sorority, and the China Painters Club. In more recent years, Mary Alice played with the Handbell Choir and sang in the choir at St. Paul's Retirement Community. She attended Colorado University and Indiana University at Bloomington. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, at Grace United Methodist Church, 3012 S. Twyckenham Drive, South Bend. Rev. David Schrader will officiate. 9389 | Southaven, MS Ralph Hedges Blaylock was born in Duck Hill, MS to Ben Hedges Blaylock and Minnie Myrtle (Brown) Blaylock. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of South Carolina at the age of 19 and served as a 1st Lieutenant in the USMC during the Korean War. Soon after, he took a job with International Harvester in Memphis as a manufacturing engineer. He married Alma Christene Costilow of Grenada on April 13, 1952. They have four children: Yvonne Richardson (Mike), Dan Blaylock (Karen), Lorene Ufferman (Doug), Patricia Langford (Ken); eight grandchildren: Yvette Jackson, Kristen Adams, Brandon Blaylock, James Michael Richardson, Courtney Bowen, Brett Blaylock, Jared Ufferman, Rachel Ufferman and a host of great-grandchildren. He was a devout Christian and dedicated his life to the ministry. He pastored the Somerville Church of God, the Church of God at Southaven and the Hernando Church of God. He was a church planter and was instrumental in the establishment of several churches in the north Mississippi area. He was a faithful man. He went home to be with the Lord on December 9, 2015. 9392 | Spearfish – John M. Garhart, 74, Spearfish, died Thursday, July 6, 1995, at Lookout Memorial Hospital in Spearfish. John Garhart was born Oct. 2, 1920, in Denver, Colo., to John W. and Maude M. (Eckdeen) Garhart. The family came to Spearfish in 1934, and John graduated from Spearfish High School in 1939. He attended South Dakota School of Mines & Technology, then served in the U.S. Army. Following his discharge, he returned to Spearfish and attended Black Hill State University, where he excelled in football, basketball, baseball and track. In 1945, he married Myrl A. Clifton at Broadus, Mont. They lived in Spearfish. Garhart pioneered pulpwood production in the Black Hills and was one of the foremost independent timber businessmen in the West River. He owned and operated Garhart & Pool, Inc., a timber contracting business. He also owned and operated a sawmill known as Northern Hill Forest Products. ON April 30, 1967, he married Blanche Jones Torgerson at White Lake. . . . . . 9394 | STANFORD — William Gardner Million Sr., 92, of Stanford died Saturday at his home. Born Feb. 28, 1918, in Fleming County, Ky., he was a son of the late Ernest M. and Ethel Gardner Million. He was the widower of Dora Lee West Million; they were married Oct. 27, 1937. He was a farmer and a member of New Bethel Church of Christ. Survivors include a son, Ernest Morton Million of Danville; two daughters, Nellie Wimmer (Ronnie) of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Helen Arvin of Berea, Ky.; a brother, Harold Million of Springfield, Ky.; three sisters, Edna Brooks and Blanch Merryman, both of Lexington, and Beulah Kelly of Owenton, Ky.; 18 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. 9395 | Stanley Bulota, 87, died October 25, 2005 at home after a prolonged illness. He was born and raised on a farm in southern Schuylkill County. He was the youngest son of Alexander Bulota and Elizabeth (Chizauskie) Bulota. Stanley was educated in a one-room grammar school, graduated from Tamaqua High School (1935) and from Lebanon Valley College (1939). He subsequently earned the degree of Master of Science in Biology from the University of Michigan. He played varsity football for four years at LVC. Upon graduating, Stanley began a career teaching science at Lykens High School, and after a period of active service in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1945, he returned to teaching and coaching football in 1946 in Hummelstown. In 1948 he accepted a position at Camp Hill High School teaching science and chemistry and coaching football. He remained in Camp Hill High School until his retirement in 1975 except for a period of naval service during the Korean War. Stanley served as an officer in the Amphibious Forces of the U.S. Navy in North Africa, Italy, and France during World War II and with Naval Training Command during the Korean Conflict. He completed his naval service as a reserve officer and retired with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Since his retirement, Stanley has remained in Camp Hill and pursued his interests in gardening, fishing, and scientific readings. He made occasional trips to the southern and western states with his wife, as well as their annual fishing vacation in Ontario. Stanley was preceded in death by his sister, Aldona, his brother, Winfield, his first wife, Alice Reed Bulota, and one son, Stanley Ben. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Walden Bulota; two sons, William of Stevenson, WA and Robert of Starbuck, WA; his stepchildren, Gail Walden of Paoli, PA, Stephen Walden of Slatington, PA and Mark Walden of Batavia, IL; and six grandchildren. Stanley will be long remembered with respect and affection by the many students and athletes whom he taught and by his many friends. He will be sorely missed by his family.
