- Mr. Ronald Alan Merriott, 76, of Lebanon, died Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon.
Mr. Merriott was born a twin and one of eleven children to the late Jasper Cleo and Frances Lillian (Frost) Merriott on Jan. 25, 1937, in Lebanon. A lifelong resident of Lebanon, he graduated from Lebanon High School in 1953. Following high school, he joined the U.S. Army. In the army, Ron worked as a medic and served his country honorably. On Feb. 13, 1971, he married Donna Lea Yeazel, in Catlin, Ill. Mrs. Merriott survives.
Mr. Merriott was a firefighter, first volunteering for Center Township Fire Department for four years, and then working full time for the Lebanon Fire Department for 22 years. He retired from LPD as a lieutenant. He also worked part time for Russell & Hitch Funeral Home in Lebanon.
He was a dedicated family man, and he enjoyed collecting coins and fire department memorabilia. Mr. Merriott was a charter member of the Lebanon Christian Church in Lebanon, and a member of Boone Masonic Lodge No. 9 F. & A. M. in Lebanon, O.E.S. No. 23 in Lebanon, Scottish Rite in Indianapolis and Knights of Pythias in Thorntown.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Merriott of Lebanon; two children, Thomas H. (Christina) Merriott and Ronna Lea (Chris) Gordon, all of Lebanon; one grandson, Christopher A. Gordon; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, John Merriott, Ora "Ding" Merriott, Alfred "Beanie" Merriott, Charles "Turtle" Merriott and Donald "Donnie" Merriott; and five sisters, Dorothy Davis, Marthena Red, Charlotte Merriott, Laura "Betty" Hughes and Clara "Shorty" Russell.
Visitation is 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 12, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon, with Masonic rites beginning at 5:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 13, at Myers Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. Lee Faust and the Rev. Harry Pitts officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon. Memorial contributions may be made to Lebanon Christian Church, 610 W. 250 N, Lebanon, IN 46052; Lebanon Fire Department, 201 E. Main St., Lebanon, IN 46052; or Indiana Masonic Home, 690 S.
