- Linneus Rites from George F. Foster
Cousin of Composer Stephen Foster, He Was Nearly 90 Years Old.
George F. Foster, 89, father of Mrs. G.B. Doolin and Louis Foster, and a cousin of Stephen Foster, composter of American folk songs, died at the A.O.O. hospital in Kirksville Sunday morning at 3:30 o'clock. Mr. Foster had been a patient at the hospital since January 24.
George Fletcher Foster, a son of the late Stephen and Mary Ann Roney Foster, was born at Burlington, N.C., May 8, 1859. He received his education there and around 1875 he moved to Texas. In 1886 he moved to Linn County, Mo., where he farmed many years. February 8, 1888, he married Miss Mary Ann Knifong at Browning and she preceded him in death on April 20, 1939. Since 1944 Mr. Foster had lived in Chillicothe. He was a member of the Methodist church.
Memorial services will be held from the Linneus Methodist church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with interment being made in family lot in the I.O.O.F. cemetery in Linneus.
Surviving Mr. Foster are four sons, Lee Foster of Purdin, Maurice Foster of Purdin, W.J. Foster of Linneus and Louis Foster of Chillicothe; five daughters, Mrs. G.B. Doolin of Chillicothe, Mrs. Curt Bagley of Purdin, Mrs. Olga Trippeer of Kansas City, Mrs. Keith Myers of Kirksville, and Mrs. F.H. Newell of Macomb, Ill; 17 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. One son, three brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
The body of Mr. Foster was removed from the Norman funeral home to the residence of Mrs. Doolin, 720 Vine street, where the body will lie in state until noon Tuesday.
